This project is about Mark Hominick's quest to become champion, while dealing with the tragedies of losing his father and his mentor Shawn Tompkins. It is a story of strength, courage and heart in the face of devastating presonal and professional losses; and a very personal look inside of the man dealing with it. In the words of Legenday boxer Muhammad Ali "A fighter that wins all the time is not a fighter, he's a winner. I'd rather be a fighter; it's like a formula that never gets tested; science is the result of failure; failure refines the formula, so that you get the same result, each time you use the formula"
This has been a labor of love for me, I funded everything out of my pocket (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2304633), because I strongly believe in what I'm doing in telling this story, while being completely dedicated and passionate about it, I do need your help to finish it, pledging an amount toward this project insures that it will be completed with your help. If 1000 people pledge $100 together we will reach out goal of $100,000. We have a distributor waiting to distribute the film, once we complete it. We will need your help! Also please spread the word around for others to pledge as well. I are very grateful for your support. Thank you!

We posted a very rough quality Internet teaser online, one that we wouldn't mind going viral. So, it was a pleasant surprise to see that between two YouTube channels we received over 10,000 views in 24 hours, and over 5000 web pages were created in 24 hours. A day later we were contacted by Sirius Satellite for an interview on MMA Today, which we did. We also showed an actual Preview of the film itself at South-by-Southwest Film Festival, and the response was amazing! We have KTLA and LA Times coming. There is a lot of excitement around the film, and its remarkable story. Just do a Google search on “Fight Spirit Pride”. We are very close, and with your help this incredible story can be enjoyed by everyone.

Mark's Life Story Has Captured The Attention Of The UFC uwww.ufc.com/news/Casting-The-Mark-Hominick-Movie
Who’s In The Film
The Documentary features: Mark Hominick, Shawn Tompkins (r.i.p.), Sam Stout, MMA Legend Bas Rutten, UFC Middle Weight Champion Georges St-Pierre, actor Kevin James, UFC President Dana White, Fear Factor’s Joe Rogan, Eddie Bravo, and many More!
What Is The Story About
THE STORY: This is a documentary about MMA, UFC and other organizations. The film focuses on a fighter who is struggling between winning his title back, and being there for his father who is dying of cancer and his sister who is going to give birth.
This is an extremely moving emotional piece of work! It’s really everyone’s story. If you have ever tried to do something, accomplish something, fight for something you believe in, with all your heart and then get knocked down; it’s a story about getting back up, time after time after time, no matter what it takes, you never give up your dream or your goal, you fight until your last breath. That is the definition of Mark Hominick.
Mark Hominick is the subject of this story he is currently a professional UFC fighter, from a small town of 2,500 people.
When I started filming this project Mark lost his title after an amazing victory at his UFC debut. His focus was divided between training and taking care of his dying father. Mark suffered four brutal consecutive losses during this period; he also was worried about losing his high school sweetheart that he wanted to marry. Mark’s mother did not agree with him fighting for a living because he graduated with an MBA in business, top five in his class with honors, from the most prestigious business school. She felt he should continue his education and become the CEO of a successful company, Mark’s professors strongly agree.
Meanwhile, Mark is preparing for his rematch to regain his title in the most important fight of his life, and under the disapproval of his mother and others, while his father’s condition worsens; Mark was completely focused, but torn. Mark’s time was split in several directions, and he loses his rematch to regain his title, and his father loses his fight to cancer. Then, Mark is subsequently dropped from the UFC and WEC organizations.
Mark was devastated at this point, but it strengthened his resolve. Mark seeks to find his way out of the abyss. The camera captures every moment of this story.
The belt Mark lost to Hioki in the first fight, Mark had defended 9 times, and no one has ever defended the belt 10 times. So with the first Hioki fight Mark was going for the 10th defend, breaking a record. It was a devastating loss for Mark to watch his belt not only go around the waist of someone else, but for it to end up in Japan, so far away from home.
There were also rumors and suspicions that “business” people in the sport that wanted to manage Mark while Shawn Tompkins was managing him, may have had a deleterious influence on Mark losing his rematch with Hioki; possibly as a result of politics outside of the cage. We don’t know for sure, but the rumors and tempers ran wild in the dressing room after the fight. With Mark demanding to see the judge’s score cards, as blood and sweat drips from Mark’s torn face. Mark's loyalty to Shawn Tompkins is unwavering. Although Mark clearly won the rematch fight, on his home turf with Hioki, politics may have prevailed, and the Judges stole the fight from Mark and gave it to Hioki, and Mark's coveted belt went back to Japan, never to be seen again. Mark's heart was crushed but Mark’s determination to avenge this loss is resolute.
Recently the UFC has gone over to Japan and signed Hioki to a contract. The final Hominick/Hioki battle is yet to come!
Added to all the other conflict and drama: Recently, Mark's mentor, trainer and manager Shawn Tompkins tragically died of a heart attack at a tender young age of 37 years old; we were all shocked to hear the news! It’s believed, partly the result of his lifestyle, hard living, coupled to a prior heart condition. Shawn was the most important male figure in Mark’s life, second only to Mark’s father Paul. Within a short period of time, Mark has lost the two most important men in his life and career.
We have extremely personal shots of fighters that you would never get to see, ever. The camera is in the dressing room after a severe loss, you never get to see that. The camera is in the shower of the fighters. The camera captures moments, scenes and events that do not exist anywhere else. We have Kevin James. Kevin is the star of the movie Mall Cops and Zoo Keeper. He is also the star of King of Queens TV series.
MMA is by far the fastest growing sport in the world and currently one of the most successful sports worldwide. The UFC is the only American sports organization that holds exhibitions all around the world, all year long (e.g. PGA golf and the NBA playoffs have never been held outside the USA). The UFC holds events in China, Dubai, Russia, Japan, Germany, Italy, France, London, Canada and several other countries.
The sport is starved for fresh content. There is no other documentary out there like this one. It’s raw! The viewing audience feels like they are peaking in on the most challenging moments in Mark’s life. Mark is the real life Karate Kid. He’s a small-town boy next-door good kid; who is very polite, well mannered, with a high education. It also echoes “The Fighter” meets “Rocky” story theme; the underdog come back story we all love.
As if it were scripted, this documentary has everything great stories are made of. Anyone watching this film will be pulled in, and connect to it.
By the time the story ends, Mark is welcomed back into the UFC; he has a title fight coming up soon with the UFC, marries the girl of his dreams, builds a home, starts a successful business, and has a child. Although, Mark lost his father and his mentor, it’s really a story about perseverance, internal strength, passion and heart. It takes FIGHT, it takes SPIRIT, and it takes PRIDE!
What Inspired The Film
I was sitting on my couch watching a boring boxing match, and I started flipping through the channels and saw a UFC fight. I decided to watch, and saw this young kid at his debut fight, beat a veteran fighter. After he won, he started to talk about his father dying of cancer, as he began to push back tears. I was caught in that moment with him, it ripped my heart out, and I wanted to know more and capture his story. This project has been a labor of love for me. I started filming six years ago. Three years of consistent filming and three film years of periodic filming. I have three Terabytes of shots covering that time span.
How Was The Film Funded This Far
I spent all of my own money up to this point. I am looking to the Kickstarter community to finish postproduction on the film.
What Is The Plan
We want to bring this incredible story to market and have the best chance for success with the film by being able to distribute it as wide as possible. We need to be able to have a strong presence at film festivals, and to promote the film in media. To accomplish this we need to be able to complete postproduction. Our Goal is to have a distribution release in Theaters, DVD, Digital Downloads, Video-On-Demand, Online Streaming, DVD rentals, Cable, and TV.
What Is Left To Do On The Film
Postproduction, editing, sound mixing, licensing of music and other intellectual property rights, distribution, marketing, advertising, and film festivals. The more money we raise, the wider the distribution, the more expansive the marketing and advertising will be. We want to take this film worldwide!
What Are Rewards
Rewards are gifts from us to you for helping us. It’s our way of saying thank you. All Rewards and donations are listed to the right.
I Want To Donate, When Can I Expect To Receive My Reward
All Rewards, big and small, will only happen when we have reached our goal and the project is funded. Once we have reached the goal, immediately after our deadline, we will start the process of rewarding those that helped us reach our goal. Tangible rewards will be shipped out after funding. Personal rewards will be priority, and we will schedule them as soon as possible. We want you to know that we appreciate your help in making this happen. You will hear from us.
Can I Gift A Reward To Someone Else
Yes, it’s a fantastic gift to give, great idea! If you would like to donate to the completion of the film but give the reward to someone else as a gift in your name, all you have to do is go through the normal process of making the donation. Immediately after the deadline, we will send you an email on Kickstarter, to the email address you provided (for billing purposes, this process must be done in your name). After the deadline we will request all relevant information from you, to properly deliver your gift to the person you have chosen to receive it.
Can I Add To My Donation After I’ve Made It
YES! Once you have donated to the film, and you want to increase your donation or receive a different reward, simply go to Kickstarter and sign in, then go to this Project page. Note: The green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new donation amount, or choose a new incentive.
Can We Exceed The Goal?
YES! What a great position to be in. Kickstarter views our goal as a threshold, and that threshold amount must be reached at a minimum, before the deadline, in order for the project to fund. However, Kickstarter will allow us to raise as much money as possible above our minimum goal, before the deadline. With more money we certainly could realize a wide variety of distribution releases, wide spread marketing, more festivals, and expanded postproduction, etc. We hope we can exceed our goal!
Is My Donation Tax Deductible
This film project is not tax deductible. Your donation is a contribution to helping us achieve our goal in making this happen, and we greatly appreciate your participation.
What happens If All The Money Is Not Raised In Time?
Sad to say, but nothing happens. This we would like to avoid with your help. If our goal is not reached before the deadline, no money changes hands and our movie does not reach its financial goal. Again, we would like to avoid this from happening, at all cost!
How Can I Contact You?
Feel free to contact us through Kickstarter or directly at: KickStartFSP@gmail.com. Once we check our email, we will respond to you within a reasonable amount of time depending on how many emails we have to reply to, but we will reply. We promise!
Help us build the social media buzz about the film. Help us promote it on your Facebook and Twitter pages and link to our kickstarter page which is http://www.FightSpiritPride.com. Blog about the film and help us bring people and excitement to our Kickstarter page. This will help us bring this movie to the screen. Become a part of the films success story. Thank you in advance!
