About this project

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
My name is Fernando Escobar. I have been creating films, in once form or another, since the age of 10 when my stepfather gave me a small 8mm camera and a few rolls of film to play with. That day and that small act of kindness changed my life forever except I would not know it until many years later. Thirty years and several personal writing projects later, I’ve decided to delve into the complex and unknown world of documentary filmmaking.

“FEAR: The Nameless, Unjustified Terror” is my first full-length documentary that touches on a subject that is very near and “un” dear to many including myself. It is a subject that is also very misunderstood and the cause of much pain and anguish for a lot of people.

WHY I’M MAKING THIS FILM
I’ve decided to make this film for several reasons. First, I know that if a subject does not asks some relevant and important questions of me, it’s not worth the time. This subject does that for me on several levels. Its begging to be explored as to why we make decisions based on, perhaps the worse premise, fear. It also want to reveal, in my belief, why this subconscious act will always keep us slaves to live lives of conformity quite desperation. Secondly and most importantly, I honestly cannot say that I chose this subject; it chose me.

WHAT THE FILM IS ABOUT:
This film is about the struggle that all human beings have with fear; specifically fear of failure. It is a film that aims to reveal that most fears are self created and imaginary.

It’s about understanding why fear is man’s worst enemy, why it debilitates us and keeps us from reaching our full potential. It is about why it keeps us from choosing the right job or career, from finding the right mate, from going after the lifestyle we’ve always wanted, and from living at peace with ourselves.

It is a film is about living your life void of fear, about finding the courage and understanding to live your life under your own terms.

The film follows the lives of three ordinary people that are on the verge of making changes and decisions that will take their lives in a radical directions… the aftermath of these decisions will test their resolve and commitment and prove or negate my theory that most fears are imaginary.

This film is a personal exploratory into the notion, as mentioned before, that people act out of fear. Have you stopped to analyze how many decisions you make throughout your day based on fear?
More importantly, we fail to try, not so much for the fair of failure, but more often for the fear that we might succeed, perhaps because we might feel that we do not deserve success. It explores the notion that it is our strengths, not our weaknesses, that scare us… and this is what keeps us from achieving true success and happiness.

GOALS FOR THE FILM:
1) To be poetic, artistic, and authentic
2) To create a film that is visually stunning and intellectually stimulating.
3) To enlighten, educate, and motivate
4) To have a festival run
5) To enable the filmmakers to create additional worthwhile works

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
I love making movies and creating something that will inspire someone to see life in a different way. It excites me to think that this may enable someone to keep reaching for that which gives him or her the energy to be what they always wanted to be or do. I believe art has the capability to mold and even transform us into something better.
I need your help in bringing this unique work to light. It goes with out saying that we all miss out on many important works not being realized because of little or no funding. I want this project to be the beginning of many worthwhile and successful endeavors that can help others realize their full potential. Your generous pledge or donation will go a long way towards making this dream a reality. I have already secured a small donation that will be used for basic equipment but to be able to complete this important work I need additional help.

A sample of what your donations will fund:

Essential equipment purchase & rental which include:
Reflectors
Lenses
Basic sound equipment
Computer drive to store footage
Transportation, lodging and food
And pay for editing and post production

An immigrant from Guatemala since he was nine years old, he is a worthy example of one living with American hopes, complete with big dreams, willing hands and a mindset to not be afraid to work to achieve it, with the assistance of the universe’s graces. If you ask, he can make it happen. He has a gift to see one’s greatness and help them see what is possible.

Upon returning from a two-year volunteer mission to Chicago in 1988, Fernando played backup quarterback at BYU, where he experienced glory days most men would love to have in their history. Not an amazingly large man, Fernando realized quickly that speed was very important, specially when a 230 lb. linebacker was looming behind.

A filmmaker from the day he first lay hands on a 8mm movie camera, Fernando recently discovered his love of writing having completed a full length script titled "Look Deeply" which he produced, directed and shot in the small town of Nampa Idaho in 2007. Currently the project is on hold until funds can be raised for post production.

His loves include an eclectic range of music, a BBQ with friends, mowing perfect stripes in his lawn and his four incredible children. He spent two memorable years at NYU, not far from where he grew up. He is set to finally become a citizen of the United States in the fall of 2010.
