FBJO SUMMER 2011: 32 shows in 8 states, (37.5% of which are free!), kids workshops, benefit performances, a new CD... same great music!
Hello from New York City!
After last summer's successful Kickstarter campaign which launched the Fatum Brothers' Jazz Orchestra's first record "Here To Say!" and helped fund the entire 15-piece band's CD Release tour across California, the question that loomed in everyone's minds was "what next?"
Well, in the spirit of reaching for the moon and continuing the creation of incredible music that has consistently proven to connect performers, audiences, and communities, here's what we ended up with in 2011: 28 consecutive days on the road, 32 performances (almost 40% of which are free to the public!), a "jazz for young people...by young people" workshop for Chicago Public School's students at Chicago Jazz Philharmonic's "Music Alive" Summer Camp, a benefit performance for Twin Cedars Youth & Family Services of Columbus, Georgia, milestone performances at the world famous Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City, and the internationally recognized Chicago Jazz Festival, and the recording of our next CD "FBJO Live at the Jazz Showcase," during nine sets between July 28th - 31st!
Supporting this project will do two things. The first thing it will do is help us cover all the expenses (gas, plane tickets, meals, recording equipment, CD production, musician labor, new compositions, etc) that go into funding a working 15-piece big band! This was the same as last year's KickStarter project goal.
What's different about this year's project is that we also hope to better our community at the same time. That's why this year's KickStarter awards not only support the FBJO, but they also give back to junior high and high school aged young musicians as identified by the Jazz Institute of Chicago and more! That means CDs, new music charts, and workshops at Chicago-land schools as early as September, 2011.
