Fatherless is answering the call to the "Pick Me Up" art fair in London, UK.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
A collective of artists, designers, graffiti writers and educators from Rockford, Illinois, Fatherless is a creative group consisting of Corey Hagberg, Jarrod Hennis, Javier Jimenez, Greg Lang, and Dave Menard. We are set to embark on a journey to the UK, for an international arts fair.
Since, 2010, the Somerset House has hosted Pick Me Up, the UK’s first contemporary graphic arts fair. It's an annual exhibition of international rising stars of the graphic arts world specially selected by an industry panel, with a goal to inspire and delight with distinctive, bold and imaginative work from around the world.
THE EVENT
Pick Me Up 2013 takes place in April, and we have been selected to participate. This is an opportunity for Fatherless to join a select few of world-wide collectives and galleries, and represent our body of work. While at Pick Me Up, we intend to create one-of-a-kind, hand-printed images specifically for the event, reflective of our Rust Belt Power Pop esthetic. Along with our eclectic mix of graphics, we will create prints, T-shirts, broadsides and handbills each day, engaging visitors with our process, esthetic and energy.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The stage is set, now we need to get there. Every journey starts with the first step. Unfortunately, one cannot simply walk to London. This is where you can make an extraordinary difference! Your donations will exclusively fund the shipping costs and travel expenses (which we determined our goal above to be the minimum), for not just us, but our supplies as well. Our process requires several, and often large, silkscreened frames to be prepared ahead of time. Not to mention the amount of heavyweight paper, numerous squeegees, dozens of ink jars, printing surfaces/tables, and the tools & hardware required for manning our booth and producing our artworks on a daily basis, for 11 days! It will be a chunk in freight.

MORE ON WHO WE ARE
Again, we love to describe our process as a "Visual Mix-tape" of sorts, and our MO is live screenprinting. Similar to a band's jam session, we come together and sling ink to not only have fun, but to create valuable works of art that are not alike. It can be a challenge to produce 1 off works though screenprinting since the process traditionally revolves around the cost-effective, repeated application of an image.

Our one-of-a-kind, hand-pulled screen prints are unique in that not one single print can be claimed "done" by just one, nor all-but-one, of us. We each have some role or decision in the number of layers of imagery used in the prints. It results in a series of artworks that may have a general theme, but no two are ever alike.

Clients we have worked with include FrostByte Media Inc. recording artists, The Last Vegas and Killer Bootlegs, Bootleg Action Figures. Works by Fatherless can also be found in the permanent collections of The Illinois State Museum and The Brooklyn Art Library.
