Dead/Alive

is a dance performance to process mortality and how to cope with it.

The project started off as a solo dance, but very soon I felt how crushing it is to face thoughts of death alone. I decided to invite in the audience to share their experiences. Soon I asked colleagues to step into the process as guest dramaturges, and eventually persuaded Philip Huang to co-host the show with me. The resulting process has turned into a celebration of sharing and community - a much more pleasant way of encountering mortality for both me and the audiences. 

Meanwhile Dead/Alive has evolved from a solo show into an experiment questioning the economy of a star performer/the auteur in favor of multiple stories. This performance layers choreographed movement and original vocal music with discussions, a workshop and strong visuals.

We are now raising funds for the expenses: set materials, costumes and artists' fees. Several people have been working hard on this project since last August - help us stay off the red in making it!

Minna Harri was invited with five other choreographers to produce a minifestival - part of the SPF5 - at the ODC Theater in July 2012. The choreographers formed WERK Collective and the WERK IT OUT Festival will take place July 19-22.

Dead/Alive will be shown at the ODC Theater in San Francisco Mission district on Friday July 20 at 8pm and Saturday July 21 at 3pm.
