Hey, I just got a new inkjet printer and was trying it out by printing some pages of the CORE. The black background boxes, page numbers, etc. sure do put a strain on it. Will there be an 'ink-saver' version at some point? Replacing the black boxes with a lighter gray may help.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on May 10
As we've requested before due to some admittedly fuzzily-understood Kickstarter guidelines, please do not promote other Kickstarters in the comments here.

Another great RPG makes a comeback with 3rd Edition! Join us and make that as great as FATE KS was! :)

Dear Evil Hat,
Please, please bring back the "_back" bookmark in the pdf. This makes it SO much easier to navigate the Pdf on a kindle or other device.

So, this is totally off-topic, but if you happen to be going to the ENnie Awards at GenCon this year, I've volunteered for their fundraiser. If I'm one of the top three earners, I have to sing "Take on Me" by A-Ha at the awards ceremony pre-show.
The link is here: http://www.ennie-awards.com/blog/about-us/ennies-publisher-karaoke-fundraiser/
If you don't know the song, it's here: www.youtube.com/watch…
This should be entertaining, hopefully for more people than just me.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 15
Joe: the small flat rate international priority package rate currently offered by the post office starts around $20. We've got handling fees and a 5-10 times longer prep time for international packages (due to customs forms) on top of that, and a 6-12 month window before things might ship (depending on what goes in the box) during which those rates might increase.
It ain't pretty.
Creator Joe D on April 15
Wow that international shipping option on the Fate Dice looks high. Is the cost really that high to ship to Canada via the normal post office, with their cheapest shipping option?
Creator Jason Childs on April 13
Thank you for the head's up Mr. Hicks. I subscribed and look forward to contributing this coming Tuesday. :)
Creator Kaarchin on April 13
Just to point out that the 's is breaking the hypertext link.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 13
We'll be launching the Fate Dice kickstarter on Tuesday. Sign up for the Evil Hat mailing list on www.evilhat.com's front page to get the launch announcement & other occasional product and event announcements as well. :)
Creator Jason Childs on April 12
Sorry for the dumb question...
I saw some pics of some pretty sweet dice recently. Are those a Kickstarter or for sale on Evil Hat website? If a KS, would you mind putting up a link to direct us towards it? Lastly, if it's not yet started, apologies for jumping the gun.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 9
No sweat.
Creator Jesse Fowler on April 9
I apologize. My mistake.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 9
Jesse,
Here's the question you answered "yes" to on your survey:
"OPT IN 1: May we add you to our Evil Hat announcements mailing list, so you can learn about upcoming kickstarters, releases, and events with Evil Hat?"
I feel that is pretty unambiguous, and you said "Yes" when asked this. Therefore you opted in to the general marketing email list which I believe is fairly described in the question above. :)
Backers will always get their rewards. That's a given, and not something someone would need "opt in" on -- hence the whole "opt" thing! :)
Creator Jesse Fowler on April 9
I do not appreciate being added to your marketing email list. I signed up to receive updates about my Kickstarter funding. I think it's great that you are selling Race To Adventure; good for you. Just don't send me unsolicited emails about it.
My question: can I unsubscribe from your general marketing email, and still receive my backer updates?
Creator Krister Looveer on April 8
man, I'm jonesing for that book already. Just started a StarWars FATE game thanks to you guys, thinking of podcasting it to peeps. Don't rush those sexy rules on my behalf, the slow update is worth it for the priceless diamond.
Creator Jeffery Goss on April 7
Oh yeah I'm glad for the feedback and don't mind that things have been pushed back. I was only worried that it may have been lost in the mail.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 7
I'm not too worried. :) We are not always on time, but we try never to leave our fans in the dark. :)
Creator Dynamic Adventures Inc. on April 7
Dude you are moving very fast and the amount of content is great, no worries from me, and glad to be a backer.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 7
Yeah, the extent of the feedback we got in both rounds has pushed out Core's timetable a bit. It's for the best, tho. We'll keep you posted. :)
Creator Jeffery Goss on April 7
Thanks for the reply Mr. Hicks. For some reason I got worried by the "estimated delivery: March 2013"
I realized it was unlikely that everything had been finalized, but figured it would be better to clarify.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 7
We sent the second out for a second round of feedback on March 18th; we're wrapping feedback on that next week, as stated in the latest update, then folding that in. After that, final art must be folded in as well (we've got a bunch more pieces coming in mid-month). Once we have all that, we render the final PDF, let folks see it, and start the printing and manufacture process, which can take a month or more. Updates will happen throughout. Please keep an eye on them!
Creator Jeffery Goss on April 7
I still have not received my physical copy of Fate/Core. Were they not sent out yet?
Creator JDL | Exile in Torment | bit.ly/ZiTPHp on April 3
Mmmmmm. Dice.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on April 2
And that's just the first set. :)
Creator Jason Hunt on April 2
I am all over those dice.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 27
I don't really understand the question.
Have the various things which aren't written yet been sent out? No. :)
Have there been previews sent out during the course of the Kickstarter of the things that have been written? Yep, you can find them in the updates tab.
The "expansions" reward covers stuff that has been written and is in the process of getting finalized and sent out as well as another 2 years of work that hasn't been written, let alone taken beyond the concept stage. So it's definitely not all sent out yet, and won't *fully* be until later 2014.
Fate Core and FAE first, folks. Then the next stuff. Slow and steady steps. Business!
Creator Josh Owens on March 27
Is the stuff in the expansions level already been sent out in random updates, or will will still get an update or email with all of that.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 27
Nope, the only thing really exclusive to this Kickstarter was the pricepoint on the digital goods. :) All along we've been looking to create a real, lives-outside-of-Kickstarter product line through all this, and I feel confident that's what we got here. :)
Creator Dan Spin on March 27
awesome sauce, I figured as much with the fate core book but I didnt know if the toolkit would end up being a kickstarter exclusive. Also on that note, when should I expect to see it in stores (approx)
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 27
Yup, it will be in the Fate System Toolkit, which we will sell, because we are a company.
Creator Dan Spin on March 27
Will there be a way to get the Magic system Toolkit after the kickstarter, Since I couldnt afford it at the time the surveys went out?
Creator Danny on March 22
@JasonWhite My bad. I just thought these would be the people interested in more Fate Core stuff. I wonder what trouble it could cause me other than people pointing it out?
It would be cool if they had some way of letting users create KickStarter groups where you can link different ones together so that if you like KickStarter X you can see other KickStarters that are related to it in some way and find KickStarter Y.
Creator Mitch A. Williams on March 21
Can someone post the link to the errata reporting page. I found a 'stealth errata' item... On the bottom of page 19 the Cult of Tranquility's first aspect is misspelled "Two conflicting proficies". Not that you can actually see it... 8^P
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 21
To be fair it seems apparent that Kickstarter is fairly lax in enforcing the policy, but it's best to avoid. :)
Creator Jason White on March 21
@Danny & Declan: It was pointed out just a little ways down this first first page of comments that it is _not_ OK to post links to other kickstarter projects in these comments. FH said it himself before that: "Kickstarter's policy is very clear: pushing links to other kickstarters in the comments or updates of another Kickstarter is against the rules, and can cause problems both for the commenter and the kickstarter the comments are showing up on."
Creator Danny on March 21
Did everyone see the next Stretch Goal for the Acthung! Cthulhu kickstarter is to port the setting to Fate Core!? WWII + Cthulhu + Fate sounds sweet to me. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modiphius/achtung-cthulhu-the-ww2-keepers-and-investigators
Creator Declan Feeney on March 21
Rocket Dice Kickstarter may be offering some incredibly cool SciFi themed dice. At the moment the Kickstarter owner is trying to gage interest in offering Fudge dice as a stretch goal (since he's exceeded all his original stretch goals).
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/springboard/rocket-dice/posts/433367
I've backed at the $10 level just so I can tell him how cool the idea is and encourage him to make lots of Fudge dice.
Creator Kira on March 20
Thanks Fred. Knowing you guys as well as I do that... Makes a lot of sense. Still may be something you want to clarify (even if your clarification is "We intentionally made this vague so that you can decide which interpretation fits the situation best") since Nerds really do love to argue the "right" interpretation of the rules.
Creator Timothy Graham on March 18
Gah, Fred beat me to it, punctual as always!
Well that my interpertation at least, but as the big man says, it's ultimately up to the GM.
Fate Core is very flexible and modular so there is no real wrong answers...

Creator Timothy Graham on March 18
@Kira
From what I've come to understand,a Skill Extra basically an Extra for your campaign, not just for a character. It's a mechanic that's always in effect and can be used by those that have the ability to access it (by paying Refresh and getting it as a character Extra). This unlocks the ability to spend your normal skill points towards this new custom Skill defined by that extra. You would not be able to even HAVE points in the skill without first having payed the "toll" to get the Extra.
So it's treated like a normal skill, and goes into your pyramid just like any other, but follows special rules that are defined by it's associated Extra.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 18
Kira, it's not clear because the decision might get made differently depending on the setting, the design intentions and sensibility of the GM and the table, etc.
Creator Kira on March 18
So I thought I'd wait and see if your new draft addressed this, but the extras chapter appears unchanged from the revised chapter released earlier. It's less a typo and more a point of unclearness, so I thought I'd bring it up here.
When extras have skills, do they have their own pyramid/stack? Do the skills fit into the character's pyramid/stack? And either way what happens when multiple characters devote skills to a single extra? It just doesn't seem clear in the book.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on March 18
Yes. The problem was that not every example in the text agreed with that section. :)
Creator Creidieki on March 18
I can't find any changes in the "Teamwork" section between the December 4th draft and the March 18 draft. Both drafts seem to say that every helper with at least a +1 in the skill contributes a +1 bonus to the roll. (Dec 14, pg. 178; March 18, pg. 174). Is the changelog correct that the Teamwork mechanic has been changed?
Creator JDL | Exile in Torment | bit.ly/ZiTPHp on March 16

Creator Saul Escobar on March 12
Just got the email update
Creator RogueStarter on March 12
@F.A.
The rules outside of the base mechanics are mostly guidelines. If you like 1-2 stunts in your games, use that! Not in recent memory have I seen a campaign without house-rulings.
