A comedic short film about an 11-year old kid with a viral video on the internet, who tries to prove himself as a serious rap artist.
Big Shot is a short film about an 11-year old rapper named Armando, whose viral video on the internet makes him a laughing stock at school. Armando hopes that a great performance at his middle school's talent show will prove to himself and his peers that his life isn't a joke. Ultimately, Armando learns how to be self-reliant, and how to stand his ground in an unfair world.
This project is a collaborative effort from myself and Producer/Co-Writer Gaby Grossman. The script combines elements of my own high school experience as an angsty, disillusioned teenager with Gaby's fantastic comedic talents, to produce a unique vision that draws upon the humorous absurdity that permeates our lives. The result is a comedy that combines pessimistic cynicism and dark humor with good old-fashioned inspiration, resulting in a film that is fun for everyone, from the thick-rimmed ironist lurking in the dark corner of the art-house theater to the pre-teen beliebers watching on their palmtop supercomputers.
Underneath the comedy, themes such as bullying, nihilism, and isolation meet hope and independence in a simple, uplifting story about self-reliance.
My thesis is this: In a cruel and ridiculous world, what else can you do but to laugh and keep going?
While we've already done most of the work, we could really use your help.
Here's where we're at:
We've finished principal photography, and have begun the editing process. We need to raise money to pay off our production expenditures, finish the film, and get it out there. We all believe that this film has serious potential, but in order for that potential to be realized, we need to exhibit and distribute it.
I hope that you'll be a part of making this happen, so that our work can inspire as many people as possible, and our vision can become everything that I know it's capable of being.
-Evan Moore, Director and Co-Writer of Big Shot
