I'm thrilled to announce that my group ZAHA is putting together a five-day tour of the eastern US this spring. We're hitting the road from May 23-27 and we're headed to Charleston, SC and back on I-95. This tour is our first foray out of the greater NYC region, and we're excited to share our music with a wider audience. Your support will help to defray costs for the tour, which include:

- paying for transportation (van rental, gas, insurance)

- paying musicians (performances, food)

- publicity & promotion

What is Soundpainting?

Soundpainting is the universal multidisciplinary live composing sign language created by New York composer Walter Thompson for musicians, dancers, actors, and visual artists. Presently the language comprises more than 1000 gestures that are signed by the composer/director (known as the Soundpainter) to indicate the type of response desired of the performers.

The Soundpainter communicates to the group (or individual) through a series of signs using hand and body gestures that indicate specific material to be performed. The Soundpainter develops the performers’ responses, molding and shaping them into the composition, and then signs another series of gestures to continue this process of composing a piece in realtime. With Soundpainting, an entire concert, theater work, dance piece, film score, visual installation, or educational presentation can be created in the moment.
