A 10-minute bedtime horror story about a girl who watches too much television - written, directed and animated by Evan Mather.
Telly is a 10-minute animated short film that I have been working on for over 6-1/2 years. As the piece is nearly complete, I am seeking funds to submit for consideration to select film festivals specializing in animation.

Telly was directly inspired by a 2004 trip to London's Tate Modern and an installation on the work of Czech filmmaker and artist Jan Švankmajer - specifically his 1966 film The Coffin Factory. Other inspirational works include 2001, The Small Back Room, Repulsion, Adam's Rib, The Shining, The Third Man, Vertigo, and of course, Oliver!.

Telly is completely digitally animated. That being said, I have worked hard to create a look and feel that looks hand-crafted - from the paper cutouts and texture, to the strings holding the characters, and the metal brads that secure the individual elements. The artwork was generated in Adobe Illustrator, composited in Adobe After Effects, and edited on Final Cut Pro. The hardware for assembly and rendering is a Quad-Core Xeon Mac Pro with 10GB of RAM.
Thank you for your consideration. Have a nice day.

My goal is for "Telly" to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short Film category. My plan is to submit to a select group of about 40 film festivals that bestow awards for animated short films that in turn qualify the film for consideration in this category. The money raised in this Kickstarter campaign will be used to pay the submission fees, blank DVDs, and mailing supplies.

"Telly" is the latest collaboration with my friend Juuso Auvinen, who has done the music for several of my films: "Vert" (1999), "Icarus of Pittsburgh" (2002), "Bodybags" (2003), "Scenic Highway" (2006), "So What?" (2007), "A Necessary Ruin" (2009), and "A Plea For Modernism" (2011). Most interestingly, Juuso lives in Helsinki, Finland – we have actually never met – thank you Internets.
