Ancient prophecies pinpoint 2012 as the date for a convergence of worlds and a new beginning for mankind.
WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy is a documentary about Native American prophecy and what it means for us all today. Journey with the filmmakers - four Jewish brothers - seeking the indigenous wisdom of Turtle Island, and carrying their message of hope and healing to the masses.
The inspiration and origination of the movie is the Lakota account of White Buffalo Calf Woman's appearance, the prophecy of her return, and its meaning. Beyond entertaining, WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy provides our audience with vital tools and resources, helping motivate individuals in their own journeys of awakening, casting off the shackles of fear. It's our desire and intention that WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy may represent a small contribution to the spiritual acceleration of the planet and all its inhabitants.
The project is being funded on a segment-per-segment basis. In this, the Lakota/Hopi segment, we travel to South Dakota and Arizona. At Pine Ridge Reservation and in the sacred Black Hills, the four brothers have been invited by esteemed Lakota Elders to receive direct accounts of the White Buffalo Prophecy.
In Arizona, we consult with Hopi Elders. The Hopi are the oldest people in North America – their traditions say the Hopi are the first people created. The Hopis have been instructed to tell the other inhabitants of this continent of the coming Great Day of Purification for the re-balancing of Mother Earth.

Ancient prophecies pinpoint 2012 as the date for a convergence of worlds and a new beginning for mankind. Four brothers embark on a personal quest for understanding, in pursuit of the meaning of the sacred White Buffalo. Theirs is a spiritual odyssey to discover the sacred wisdom of Turtle Island, and its portents for America today.
A rare and profound galactic alignment - a 26,000 year convergence of earth and solar system with the Milky Way center - occurs early in the 21st century. Eerily, the ancient Maya boldly prophesied the year 2012 to be the fulcrum of the cosmological synchronization. They foresaw world-shaking changes in the social and physical aspects of the planet, including increased earthquake activity, volcanic eruptions, gigantic windstorms, heralding a time in which the old civilization would pass away with a new one arising from its ashes. In fact, indigenous people all over the globe have now come forward to report their age-old traditions which warn of changes already upon us as Mother Earth awakens.
Native voices charge humanity to rise to a heightened level of respect and sensitivity to Nature, to embrace a co-creative partnership between humans and higher forces. Suddenly, an unprecedented flood of new information and energy is emerging about an age in which global society disintegrates and is reborn. Hopi Indian rock carvings, dating back centuries, speak of the "tall house of glass” on the shores of the great eastern sea (believed by contemporary Hopi elders to be the United Nations building in New York City), and of the time when "a gourd of ashes would fall twice on the land of the rising sun” (the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki). While the prophecies concur that dramatic geological and climatic adjustments are indeed taking place, they also point to this period in history as a crucial juncture in man's spiritual development. Once secret and guarded medicine from cultures and traditions older and wiser than our own is now brought forth to heal the planet.
Spiritual traditions and leaders from many lands and cultures agree that Mother Earth is in the midst of a momentous evolution in consciousness. A rapidly approaching convergence of dimensions opens a door into the heart of space and time, leading to humanity¹s collective unfolding as a species. The Lakota, Cheyenne, and other Plains Nations speak about a holy feminine archetype: centuries ago, White Buffalo Calf Woman came to present precious cultural and spiritual gifts, promising to return at the end of an era during a great time of planetary transformation. Many Native Americans of various Nations believe the prophecy was fulfilled when, in August 1994, a white buffalo calf, a female named Miracle, was born on a farm in the Midwest. Against astronomical odds, a second and then a third white buffalo calf was later born on the same farm. (As foretold in the prophecy) Miracle changed color four times, signifying to those knowledgeable about Lakota prophecy the unity of the races and the coming together of humanity into oneness of heart, mind, and spirit. In WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy, using highly-advanced HD mobile technology, the vision-makers – including four Jewish brothers - embark on a quest to understand the meaning of the White Buffalo. Along the way, they journey to the Wisconsin farm where over 100,000 pilgrims have come to visit the actual White Buffalo calf and her successor.
In the pyramids and sacred energy centers of the Yucatan, they are initiated into the wisdom of the Maya by shaman and day keepers. In the mountaintop temples of Machu Picchu, Peru, the - brothers learn how the ancient Incan and other civilizations developed the science of garnering personal energy from the sun for spiritual development. They travel to Hopiland in the American Southwest to meet with Hopi elders. They venture into a federal penitentiary in Texas to participate in a native ceremony with incarcerated medicine man, Iron Thunderhorse. They consult with Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, founder of the Jewish renewal movement, and with other spiritual elders of this continent. Theirs is a spiritual odyssey to discover the ancient sacred wisdom of Turtle Island, and its portents for America today.
When White Buffalo Calf Woman originally came to the Nation, upon her departure she told the People: "I must leave you now, but I will return someday. Then there will be a new life and a new understanding." She then transformed into a red buffalo calf, into a maiden again, into a yellow calf, into a maiden, into a dark brown calf, into a maiden, then into a white buffalo calf, thus signifying the unity of the races and the coming together of humanity into oneness of heart, mind, and spirit.
Turtle Island is the name of several Northeastern Woodland Native American peoples, particularly the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy), for the continent of North America. It has become commonly used today among many Nations and also in some environmental circles.
The Lakota tell how 2,000 years a divine female Spirit named White Buffalo Calf Woman came to present precious cultural and spiritual gifts. She taught that all life is related - mitakuye oyasin - and promised to return at the end of the cosmic era during a great time of planetary transformation.
Many Native Americans of various Nations believe the fulfillment of the prophecy began when, in August 1994, a white buffalo calf, a female named Miracle, was born on a farm in the Midwest. Against astronomical odds, a second and then a third white buffalo calf was later born on the same farm. Miracle, as indicated by the prophecy, in fact changed color four times. Since then, other White Buffalos have come to herald a new era on this planet.
There is, perhaps, no definitive answer. We know of the three genetically pure (as opposed to albino) white buffalos who were born is Wisconsin. Then there is Lightning who lives at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort just south of Pittsburgh, PA. And just this past May (2011), Lightning Medicine Cloud was born on the Lakota Ranch in Greenville, Texas. There are reports of a number of other white buffalos in Arizona, Oregon, and other locations. But, there are also selectively-bred animals that cross buffalo and cattle genetics - the so-called 'beefalo'.
Only in the negative sense that there are often stumblingblocks along the path to true understanding. We would quote our friend Hawk, who observed in connection with Lightning: "Those animals were bred by man. He was bred by God!"
What do the Hopi prophecies, the Mayan calendar, and 2012 have to do with the prophecy of the White Buffalo?
The wonderful synchronicity is that so many native traditions and prophecies worldwide correspond. WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy focuses on the prophecies of the Lakota, Hopi, and Mayan peoples.
The Hopi have uncannily accurate prophecies dating back centuries which refer, for example, of the two world wars, the United Nations, and other modern events.
Millennia-old prophecies of the Mayans speak of the culmination in December 2012 of a 26,000-year-long cosmic cycle and, according to some, of even longer galactic cycles. They also foretold the coming of the conquerors from across the ocean. Mayan holy centers – colossal pyramids and monoliths similar strikingly similar those of Egypt – were ‘deactivated’ lest their power be misused by the spiritually immature. For the past decade, Mayan Elders have been reconsecrating these power sites, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from every part of the globe to places such as Chichén Itzá, Tikal, Palenque, and Uxmal. The filmmakers consult with Mayan Timekeepers and a Fire Priestess.
We're making a point here: we regard the indigenous peoples of this hemisphere as the true Americans.
Originally (back in 1994!), the film was conceived as a documentary about the significance of the birth of a single white buffalo - Miracle. The project expanded into an exploration of Native American prophecy focusing on the Lakota, Hopi, and Mayan traditions. And, because the subject matter concerns the very survival and transformation of this planet, the film evolved organically into the personal journey of the filmmakers, the four brothers. Their odyssey is emblematic of the human quest for understanding.
In other words, where do four Jewish dudes get the chutzpah to make a documentary about Native American tradition and culture?!
WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy deals with the pilgrimage of four brothers who happen to be Jewish. In 1994, we read about the birth of Miracle, a pure White Buffalo on the Heider Farm in Janesville, Wisconsin. The film was originally conceived as a documentary about the spiritual significance of a single buffalo calf to Native Americans based on a millennia-old prophetic tradition. The project subsequently expanded into an exploration of prophecy focusing on the traditions of the Lakota, Hopi, and Mayan peoples. As Jews whose family came to these shores only in the last century, we sometimes feel ourselves to be strangers in a strange land. So, in order to understand the meaning of the prophecies, which concern the very survival of this planet, we seek counsel and wisdom from the real Americans - the Indigenous peoples of this hemisphere. The film has evolved organically into the personal journey of the filmmakers, the four brothers, during a time when the divisions among the races and genders and between Man and Mother Earth must be healed.
It's only the end of one cosmic epoch and the beginning of a new and brilliant chapter in planetary evolution. We believe that mankind is about to experience a quantum leap in consciousness and in all areas of human endeavor. The forces and groups that have controlled society for eons are losing their grip on this planet. However, they do not cheerfully relinquish the power they have exercised for so long. Fear has been one of the primary mechanisms of this control over our lives and well-being. Hence, the continued utilization of 'scare tactics' to frighten and manipulate the population. The ancient Mayan sages never predicted that 2012 is the end of the world - just the end of an old and outmoded way of existence.
WHITE BUFFALO: An American Prophecy is our public service announcement; hopefully, it represents a modest contribution to the evolution and ascension of Planet Earth and all her inhabitants.
