Es Muss Sein. [It Must Be.]

Written by Gal Nachshon.

Of Ainslie Productions.

There are moments in New York, when we simply walk past and miss the most magical moments of our life. Most times we are in a hurry, at other times we have just grown accustomed to run down the avenue without looking left or right. At its core, Es Muss Sein attempts to show what might happen if only two strangers looked up from their lives while riding the subway and perhaps, at arms reach, find an ordinary yet breathtaking New York moment patiently waiting.

It happened to Vincent and Naomi ten years ago when they randomly met for the first time, in an isolated corner of Central Park. They shared a typical and rare New York moment, which was over as quickly as it began. It was so brief that neither of them, as they carried on with their lives, never made anything of it nor forgot it. That moment of serenity, hidden behind the cloud of orange summer leaves at the heart of Manhattan, became the dream Vincent and Naomi chased forever after. However, they looked different then, they were still naïve and protected from real life by their parent's wings.

They left the nest a couple of years after. They got their first apartment in New York, said hello to independence and goodbye to pretty much everything else. As the years went by, Vincent and Naomi, independently, realized that affording a moment of peace is not easily achieved in a city that never sleeps. They work restlessly every day, pay rent monthly, and every night still seem to come only a fingertip short from fulfilling their dreams.

Dictated by society taboos and family pressure, it seemed unfathomable that what Vincent and Naomi were always after was right there in front of them. However, four more times they have met, and never actually stopped to look at each other’s eyes until the sixth encounter. Only then did Vincent and Naomi realize that they are not strangers at all, but actually, ever since that day in Central Park, were always meant for one another. It had to be, or Es Muss Sein.
