About this project

Ethereal Research Laboratory

I am creating a variety of limited edition, soft sculptures that live inside scientific, glass Erlenmeyer flasks. Each of them are handmade and slightly different. There are seven silly different "specimens" tagged with their locale, identifying name, date, and host. Each are limited to only 12 in the edition, signed and numbered on the back of their official specimen tag.

Example of tag data:

Specimen: Hepatopus Whiskar
Date: II V 2009
Collected by: Carol Es
Locality: St. Paul, MN
Host: Sweater vest

I am trying to raise the funds to purchase the glass beakers for this project. There will be three sizes of Erlenmeyer flasks. 2000 ML, 1000 ML, and 500 ML. The breakdown is as so:

2000 ML = 12  (1 style)

1000 ML = 48  (4 different styles)

500   ML = 24  (2 different styles)

The discounted cost for these beakers with black rubber stoppers, tax and shipping will be approximately $1200.

This is a project I have been wanting to complete for two years.

*Note: If I happen to run out of any of my rewards during this campaign, I will replace them with equivalent rewards of artwork or limited edition prints. Check for updates if supply surpasses demand.

Thank you for considering my project.

I am a self-taught, mixed media artist working in Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in the apparel industry with my dysfunctional family and worked as a pattern cutter. Dreams, childhood memory, and the materials from the garment manufacturing trade creep into my artwork as a type of redemption. Art has become a methodical, visionary activity I've used to distract myself from all the bullshit I've had to encounter, and a saving grace I use to reconstruct what wasn't. You can see my artwork on my website to see what the hell I'm talking about.
