About this project
The Story
The documentary would consist of two main parts. Home videos shot by our parents throughout our lives and a road trip in which we would drive across the country to our birthplace Portland, Oregon and back. We have had the idea for this trip since we were about 13 and a documentary class in college made us see it as an opportunity to tell a very unique story. The purpose of this roadtrip is to not only explore the country, but also to visit our birth relatives for the first time. There is a deep seeded curiosity to know more about them; specifically our birth mother who passed away at a young age who chose to give us up for adoption at a young age which was to us it was a gift above all others. The documentary would cut back and forth between our journey across the country and the journey through our childhood.
Background
In our minds we believe this documentary mainly revolves around family. Unlike others, our parents were selected among many candidates. Our family was chosen for us. Our lives could have gone down so many paths but this one led to right here and now. It’s why we are talking to you now and It’s the reason we are even creating a documentary. See, we were raised by two videographers as parents, so (as you would imagine) a good amount of our childhood was spent in front of a camera. Just making the trailer, we went through a dozen tapes and barely touched the surface. Most of this footage we have never even seen until now.
The relationship between us plays a big part in this story. Growing up as a twin you not only share your toys; you also share your lives, your friends and your family. My parents are also obviously key characters in this film. They act as both narrators and directors in the home movies. To their surprise they ended up with not one but two boys. Our mother is a huge influence in making this film. She recently passed away from cancer. She pushed us to create this and we often shared ideas. It was upsetting to think we would never get to interview her. She won’t ever see this, but we believe she plays a big enough role in this film already.
Why KICKSTARTER?
Well driving across the country and back is quite expensive especially when you have student loans to pay. We will need gas, food, and (if we can’t find somewhere to camp out) money for motels. We also need harddrives for all the footage on the road and miscellaneous gear such as car mounts for cameras. You still get something out of the deal besides our good graces. On the right of this page there is a list of rewards varying by donation amount. Some of these rewards include credits in the film, the film itself, personalized artwork from Kevin, and video and graphic design services from the both of us. We will also over time match any donations and donate to a charity which will be decided once funding is complete. Kickstarter is an all or nothing system so if we do not reach 2500 we do not get anything. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. This film is more than just a documentary to us, It is the story of our lives.
