About this project

"Pushing theater to the edge fearlessly, and perhaps even wantonly . . . unlike anything else that's playing on stage in New York at the moment"

- Martin Denton, nytheater.com

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vignettes for the Apocalypse V, is the 5th annual edition of New York's oldest and largest Sci-fi/Horror themed theater festival, to be presented by award-winning company EndTimes Productions, at the 99-seat Kraine Theater, 6/9-7/3, 2011. Employing the talents of over 90 performers, musicians, and dancers, VFTA:V will include 34 original works in the genre, most of which will be seen by New York audiences for the first time, in addition to genre-related concert performances, and film screenings.

This year EndTimes will be joining forces with horror-theater veterans, Nosedive Productions, globetrotting storyteller Clay Chapman, and cult band, Witches In Bikinis, to create an experience that will represent the entire spectrum of live horror-themed performance in New York City. VFTA:V will feature pieces that include, a zombie Thomas Jefferson debating the Texas school board, a future in which memories are sold on the black market, a space station in a decaying orbit as the Earth self-destructs, a man who gets more than he bargained for in a Craig's List casual encounter, and a 5 minute apocalyptic musical.

As the genre has gone increasingly mainstream, many others have attempted to copy the VFTA model, but we are the oldest, biggest and best fest of our kind. One of the comments we most frequently get from audience members is that they have never seen this sort of material performed live on stage before.

This year's festival is going to be massive, and very expensive. All that stage blood and liquid latex don't come cheap. Not to mention:

  • A giant King Kong puppet
  • An 8 ft working dungeon exhaust fan (You'll see...)
  • 100 ft of viscera
  • A working winch to hoist actors above the stage
  • Wigs, costumes, and makeup
  • Lighting gels and gobos
  • Multiple stage managers
  • A press agent
  • and on and on....

The theater rental alone will cost $7,000, before we construct a single space station control panel.

With your help we can make this a theater experience that will melt brains, shred eyes, and gouge stomachs, all the while leaving the audience gasping for more. By funding VFTA:V you also get a lot of bang for your buck, supporting the work of well over 100 theater artists, many of whom are leading lights in the indie theater community.

VFTA:V Highlights Include:

  • Special performances by Clay Chapman (The Pumpkin Pie Show, Rest Area, Host of Fangoria's Fear Mongers)
  • The premiere of Nosedive Productions' latest Blood Brothers show, "Freaks From the Morgue".
  • 18 new short pieces, and 6 "best of" from the past 4 editions -The East Coast premiere of the full-length "Smart", based on the true story of the Dartmouth Murders in which two "normal" teens brutally murdered a professor and his wife, stabbing them a total of 47 times. Directed by Russell Dobular, Written by Robert Fieldsteel.
  • "The You Knows Know", by Derek Ahonen ("Pied Pipers of the Lower East Side",the Amoralists), presents a future in which heterosexual unions are outlawed. Directed by Kristen Skye Hoffman (Wide Eyed Productions)
  • "Madhouse", by Jerrod Bogard ("The Spin Cycle", Wide Eyed Productions), a classic-style Guignol in which a 19th century horror novelist is locked up in a insane asylum for inspiration by her publisher. Experimental brain surgery ensues.
  • The return of last year's disturbing festival hit, "The Kids Are Awake", by Mark Borkwoski (Star of The Perfect Witness, The Cost of a Soul, author of The Godling), dealing with the effect of the BTK killings on the children of both the killer, and his victims.
  • The triumphant return of cult band, Witches In Bikinis, performing with Alien Surfer Babes, grotesque burlesque artist, Missy B Havior, and Steve Strangio's comic deconstruction of the slasher genre, "Savage Hot Babe Massacre", in the first ever Vignettes Horror-Rock Circus. Hosted by The Blood Brothers. Musical Direction by Serena Miller. Choreogrpahy by Tiffany Herrioett.
  • An exclusive screening of "The Perfect Witness", with Q & A by star and co-writer, Mark Borkowski.
  • The New York premiere screening of Ford Austin's "Dahmer Vs. Gacy".

Thanks to everyone who has supported EndTimes, and continues to make our work possible. We have provided a creative home for dozens of theater artists during the past four seasons, and will continue to create a space where artists can try out the craziest thing they've ever thought of doing, in an environment that fully supports that choice.

Much Love,

EndTimes is an independent Theater/Film Production Company founded in New York City in 2006. Since then, EndTimes has produced 7 Full-Length Productions, and over 100 short plays, involving the talents of almost 300 theater artists. The company has performed in the New York, San Francisco, and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, winning top honors for Best Production, Best Director, and Best Ensemble at the San Francisco Fringe Festival in 2008 for William Whitehurst’s “Knuckleball”, and again in 2009 for Mark Borkowski’s “The Godling”. EndTimes also won the Best Production award in 2010 for its presentation of Jamie King’s “TMZTV” at the Shortened Attention Span Festival. EndTimes has been widely featured in various publications, including, Time Out New York, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Broadwayworld.com

EndTimes focuses on work that is dark and satiric, with an underlying element of social commentary. Incorporating dance, music, vaudeville, and comedy, we produce high-energy, entertaining theater that is aimed at a wider audience than more traditional forms. Drawing for inspiration from sources as varied as the Marx Brothers, Alice Cooper, Robert Anton Wilson, Del Close, the Annoyance, and George Romero, EndTimes merges popular forms with the ancient tradition of live performance to create a theater experience that is appealing and accessible to modern audiences.
