About this project

Restless?

We are, too. Join Baltimore/DC artists on a mixed-media-on-your-feet theatrical voyage through an acid-laced dreamscape complete with puppet confidants, murderous vultures, swamp things, and all the terrors that keep us up while the whole world is sound asleep. We get it . . .

Earlier this fall, EMP Collective opened up our very own arts space in an old turn-of-the-century shoe factory in downtown Baltimore with aims to brighten up the neglected storefront area with artistic collaboration, and we've been on a roll!

For the past two months, EMP Collective has been busy hosting monthly gallery openings, film screenings, workshops, readings, and showcasing amazing guest theatre-makers, musicians, magicians, and performance artists from all over the country. Now, we are ecstatic to bring to you a one-of-a-kind theatre experience at our brand-new home!: Night Sweats

Night Sweats takes our previous shows like WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! and (...and you're just not good enough.) to whole new level by creating a fully immersive collaboration of theatre, music, visual art, film, and dance.

Night Sweats follows 17-year-old, Gordon on the hunt for his missing psychiatrist-prescribed beloved puppet, Bluebarb. As Gordon searches for what has been his only friend and safety blanket he must fight against a long-time fear that has plagued Gordon for years: a 7-foot-tall anthropomorphic bird character from the popular children's show, Poppyseed Place.

We are extremely lucky to have assembled a talented team of playwrights, musicians, actors, dancers, and puppeteers, to help us in creating the nightmarish world of Gordon's subconscious, which will take the audience on a journey through the middle of a dark sea,  a Technicolor tripped-out children's show, and the wooded swamps of Florida. In the end, Night Sweats is about the irrational fears that don't just haunt our hero, but us as well.

Your tax-deductible donation will bring these worlds and this project to life by funding the construction of our sets, costumes, and puppets. We are also raising funds to compensate the spectacular young local artists of both Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC volunteering their talents and long hours to aid in this endeavor. Help us in continuing to foster the collaboration between local artists of different mediums and bringing new art to the area!

And remember,
EMP LOVES YOU

  • Because we can.

We're doing our small part in bridging the artistic divide between these two diverse cities. Our last big project (...and you're just not good enough) was in DC (The Fridge) and we aim to do more, including cross-pollinating both artist and audience from each fair city.
