About this project
ABOUT CLAWDETTE
A few years ago I wrote and illustrated a short story called "Clawdette the Cat". I did the drawings in black and white on paper, typeset the project on a computer, printed a few dozen copies of the booklet and sent it out to my family and friends as a Christmas gift.
People responded so well to the book that I decided to redo all of the drawings in color at high resolution and create a much nicer book that I could market to children's book publishers. You can read "Clawdette" and see what I've done so far with the drawings here:

I'm seeking your support as I finish recreating and reworking all of the drawings for "Clawdette" in full color and high resolution. I will use Adobe Photoshop for the artwork and Adobe InDesign for the layout.
Once "Clawdette" is illustrated and typeset I will use Amazon's CreateSpace service to publish it and make 300 copies which I will market at publishing trade shows and submit to traditional publishers.
ABOUT THE VIRGINIA AVENUE PROJECT
http://virginiaavenueproject.org
I attended two VAP productions in 2006 and knew that I needed to get involved with this fabulous organization. It is a free after-school program that unites children from difficult circumstances and adult theatrical professionals for a series of classes and full stage productions before live audiences. Various VAP programs allow kids to write plays or act in them and to use photography and videography to tell their stories.
The Project's statistics are astounding:
* 100% of VAP kids graduate high school
* 90% go on to college
* 85% are the first in their family to attend college
Aside from these numbers, I can only say from my experience of three years of volunteering for VAP that I have never seen this level of devotion and love from children for any other extracurricular program. The kids can stay in VAP until they're eighteen if they wish -- and many of them do! And many then come back and volunteer as college students or adults.
Please watch these videos to learn more. They include clips of Project performances as well as reflections from the kids in VAP themselves:

As great as the Virginia Project is, it is facing severe budget cuts this year. In addition to continuing to volunteer, I will also donate ten percent of the funds I receive from this Kickstarter project to VAP. And I will also donate one paperback copy of "Clawdette the Cat" to a VAP kid (I know many of them personally) for every $100 or above donation I receive.
Here is a video of me performing with VAP in a play called "Cracking Wise With Billy Wise" with Felix Horan: http://www.youtube.com/watch...
Thank you again for taking the time to read this!
