About this project

Hello World! Please join us in this project! Thank you!
love, graham and emily

---------------------------------

Nourish(meant) is a project, adventure and movement that grows from a love for food, relationship, community, and art.

We believe that many of the problems in our world today could be addressed by changing the way we produce, distribute and consume food. For example, the average food item travels 1500 miles before reaching its consumer, producing harmful emissions and pesticide pollution, disconnecting food communities and putting multinational corporations in control of our food in the process. We believe that if we change the way we eat, we change everything.

Three sub-projects comprise Nourish(meant):

• First, bodily nourishment, manifested as a container garden growing on top of a bus, a basic kitchen, and the ongoing process of making and sharing food.
• Second is spiritual or creative nourishment: We will give food- and receive art objects, stories, personal histories, and other gifts. To everyone we meet, we will ask, "what does nourishment mean to you?" With the answers of hundreds of people across America, we will draw together the Principles of Nourish(meant) - a collective set of ideas, maybe even a manifesto, woven from the ever-growing Nourish(meant) community.
• Third is mental nourishment: knowledge and conversation about permaculture, gardening, home food culturing/fermentations, good nutrition, biofuels, Cradle to Cradle design, and self-sustaining community. To this end, we are creating zine/graphic novel style pamphlets on a variety of topics.

All wrapped up in one, it's a traveling biofuel-powered garden and education center, complete with a heirloom seed bank for helping those who want to get started hit the dirt.

With all of the aforementioned rolling on the four wheels of a 14-passenger school bus named Sidney run on waste vegetable oil (WVO), and information on how to set up your own system, we seek to spread knowledge about individual and community self-reliance. We'll do so through conversations and also pamphlets (and eventually a book) in the following five categories:

• GROW (vegetable gardening)
• CULTURE (home fermentation: sourdough, yoghurt, cheese, sprouts, etc.)
• PERMACULTURE (growing and culturing a social way of being that is sustainable and good for both people and the environments we are lucky enough to inhabit)
• MOVE AND GATHER (ourselves, the thing we use, as well as energy for our use)
• GENTLE GRAFFITI (social acts of art - and sometimes mild dissent - that incur little to no harm, but rather, benefit the community, world, and artist.)

This bus will become our home, garden, kitchen, work and art space as it functions as an education center. It will become a traveling symbol of inspiration and our collective desire for a more nourishing way living in community and producing food. Please help us finish!

We are well on our way to road readiness, but we still need some help. Join us! Become a funding member of the project and get some sweet stuff in the process.
