Good writing about bikes that fits in your pocket and changes the world.

I'm publishing two zines this month. Both are about bikes. Both are entirely written by me. Other than that, they're totally different.

First up is Bikenomics: A user's guide to the new bicycle economy. This zine is loosely based on the series of ten columns I wrote for Grist on that topic earlier this year. In it, I make the economic case for bicycle transportation on a household as well as a civic level. I also talk about specific economic barriers that restrict many people's transportation choices. (Here's a window into some of my existing Bikenomics writing.)

Eventually, I'm planning to expand this one into a book, with case studies from across the U.S., in the next year. Your support and feedback at this stage will help make that book a) happen and b) be even better.

Also on deck is Taking the Lane #4, the latest entry in my series of bike zines about and by women who do just that -- take what's theirs. For this issue, I'm returning to the long-form essay and exploring the convergence of bicycling, sexuality, feminism, and empowerment in bike dance teams. (Here's a link to some short movies that show a pretty wide cross section of the bike dance movement.)

Funds raised here will cover the printing and postage for both zines. The goal is to have the both ready and out the door before I leave for tour on August 29th. It can only happen with your help!
