We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on February 19, 2012.

Some photos of the new prototype!

Update #14 · Mar 4, 2012 · 12 comments

Here's the overview of the new prototype I'm currently testing (the case will be next).  On the bottom there's the USB port, as well as the new auxiliary port with 2 outputs and 1 input.

This shows the new top PCB that now has the camera cable interface, an IR emitter, the light sensor and a new red LED flashlight!

Here's the flashlight in action.

And here's the big new feature -- it can act as a USB host!  This is a Mini-B to A adaptor.

And the first proof of USB host capability!  It was simpler to do a print test with sample code than try to begin to write a camera interface, but this is enough to show it works!  This paper was printed with the Timelapse+ prototype, with no computer involved!

So...I'm just thoroughly testing all the hardware before ordering the next iteration of the PCBs.  I'm nearly done, and then once they're ordered I'll move on to the case!

I'll keep you posted!  Thanks everyone!

Thanks for making the LED red - it does help with retaining night adaptation and makes it usable at a Star Party (you do *not* want to be showing a white torch at a Star Party, unless its raining!)

If you have USB host support, that would imply you want to add camera control?

RRRR - I'm speculating that it's for night vision reasons. Shooting timelapse at night, I use a dim red light I originally bought for astronomy star parties because the red seems to help with reducing loss of night adaptation in the eyes. (US Navy has done some research that contradicts that a bit though...I still like it)

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for keeping the updates and info coming, it's really appreciated, and not something you always see in these things.

Awesome stuff! Forgive my ignorance but would it be able to control digital servos as well?

Also, what else could the USB host be used for?
