Our 2011 Festival (Oct 10-15) will include installations, workshops, lectures, and two nights of concerts!
Announcing Electrogals 2011 * October 10 - 15 at Disjecta
Electrogals will run October 10th through October 15th at Disjecta in North Portland. This annual festival of electronic music and digital art by women features sound-art installations, workshops, and composers in residence, culminating in two incredible nights of live electronic music, video and performance. It's gonna be EPIC, people! And we need your help to pull it off - we've had some fabulous fundraiser concerts to support this festival and some wonderful donors, but we still need a little bit more to pull off everything we want to do as part of this festival!
EVENING CONCERTS:
San Francisco-based composer/performer and media artist Pamela Z makes a rare Portland appearance at Electrogals this year, and will be holding an artist talk as well as performing in one of the evening concerts. Among the other amazing artists featured in the evening concerts will be Tender Forever, Portable Morla, Christi Denton, Silk & Olive (Andy Fish), Ilima Considine, Cheetah Finesse (Mireya Medina), Sylvia Hackathorn, Ayako Katoaka, Bonnie Miksch, Momilani Ramstrum, Bonnie Miksch, Marisa Anderson, Kavita Bali, Briana Marela, La Pump, Lovers, and Heather Perkins.
WORKSHOPS/LECTURES:
The festival will include a lecture on Timebanking as well as a short performance by UK artist Stephanie Rearick and a concert and talk about looping in Ableton LIVE by Natasha Kmeto. Workshops will include a class on the history of Electronic Music taught by Bonnie Miksch and a demonstration on how to make music on the iPad (thanks to the sponsorship of the Portland Mac Store).
INSTALLATIONS:
We will be featuring a "Composer In Residence" installation on the main stage during select gallery hours, when the public will have the unique opportunity to see and hear an electronic music composer as she works on an original piece of music. Our gallery installations will also feature sound-art works from around the world, including listening stations housed in vintage hair dryers, as well as a piece by Stephanie Loveless.
Electrogals 2011 is produced by Heather Perkins, Mary Wright, and Christi Denton.
