About this project

PLEASE KEEP CONTRIBUTING! We don't have any corporate sponsorship or institutional funding!  We only have YOU, and your support has been amazing! You have our tremendous gratitude, and this money will pay for hard drive storage space for our footage and expenses we've already incurred. The more money we get, the more expenses we can continue to cover, and the further we can go down the path of completing this film!  Please keep contributing and encouraging all your friends, family and colleagues to do likewise! If we can hit 125% funded ($21,875), we can also pay for a month of editing.  Thank you!

----

On Oct 1, 2011 a few award-winning filmmakers in NY teamed up to make a collaborative film about the Occupy Wall Street Movement.  They called and wrote to their filmmaker friends, and they to theirs.  Soon, there were over 60 people across the country who had come together to join the collaborative film.

It started with a few filmmakers in NY, but within a couple weeks people were joining in Denver, Portland, LA, Boston, Seattle, Philly, DC, Kansas City, Miami, Pittsburgh, Austin, Dallas, Rhode Island, Nashville, Chicago, San Francisco, Oakland, in short: it took off all over the country.  Skilled editors got onboard, PR people, producers, post production supervisors, a supervising editor signed on, post production services were donated by Metropolis Post, Duotone contributed library music, and everyone started pitching in what they could. As more and more people joined the project, people started helping each other with their shoots, with equipment and contacts.  This film had taken off; the experimental process was working!

The thing all the contributors share is a desire to make a compelling, cohesive and honest film; a film that documents the movement from many perspectives, from many angles, from many cities and towns, and that joins these many voices into a singular and unique portrait.  Guided by award-winning filmmakers and editors, this exciting, independent collaborative film needs your help to make it a reality.

With a feature documentary film, there would normally be many months of pre-production and fundraising. Because of the spontaneity and urgency of this movement, we did not have that. We jumped into this because we felt a need to do so and now we are donating our time and energy while covering expenses ourselves. But that can only go so far.

$17,500 is our immediate goal.  It's the amount we need to buy the hard drive storage and editing space that will allow us to begin the massive process of sorting and editing.  This will get us to the point that we can, at the very least, put together a promo reel to bring in additional funding.

Kickstarter is an all-or nothing crowd-funding platform.  Either we hit our goal, receive the funding and send out all the rewards, or, if we fall even one dollar short of our goal, your card isn't charged and we get nothing.

Support so far has been tremendous.  We've already got post production services donated by Metropolis Post (guaranteeing that this film will be completed), library music donated by Duotone, and close to 100 people around the country are donating skills and service, work, time and maybe even a little bit of love.  We just need to get enough funding together right now to get our storage needs covered, and to start the process of sorting and editing footage.

Please support this collaborative film about the Occupy Wall Street Movement. We have a variety of rewards, including many donated artworks by amazing artists, so please donate as much as you can and choose a reward!

Scroll below to see images of each work; one of them just might be the perfect holiday or birthday gift for that passionate person in your life.

FAQ:

Is this propaganda?
No.  Footage will be coming in from all over the country, from people with all different backgrounds and ideas.  There will be footage representing many ideologies and opinions. We are not directly affiliated with the organizers of Occupy Wall Street.

No.  The feature will be shaped by experienced, award-winning filmmakers into a cohesive and thorough documentary about the Occupy Wall Street Movement.

You tell us.

Ok: Yes.  It is.  We certainly think so, or we wouldn't be donating our time, work, and tremendous effort into this. And we've made films before.

We also know how to get our films seen and talked about. Here's a sampling of recent press:

Tweet about us, tell your friends online, or contribute your skills in some way. Write to contact@99percentfilm.com and tell us what you'd like to do.

We need a few more experienced editors in NY with FCP 7 at home. If that's you and you'd like to work on this film, write us: contact@99percentfilm.com.

We already have  Twitter and Facebook pages up. Twitter:http://twitter.com/#!/99_film

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/99percentfilm
Website: http://www.99percentfilm.com

We have a website and youtube channel, and footage will be up and streaming. We will update this page and backers on all progress.

Right now we have an urgent need to get our editing set-up in place.  We're running out of room to store footage, and we don't have a back-up of anything yet.  Anyone who's made a documentary knows how essential that is!  We also have website expenses, post production, color correction, sound mixing, music licensing, legal fees, and a whole lot more - in short: making films is expensive and there is no end to what your contribution can help us accomplish.  Your pledge is vital to our ability to make this film.

(In a few weeks, the images below will be gone. We wish to leave behind our thanks to the many amazing and generous artists, musicians and others who donated rewards. We also thank our publicity and outreach team: Stephen Dotson, Kari Collins, Ginger Liu, Annie Riordan, Laura Alexander and Audrey Ewell for all their effort. And finally, we give our thanks to our many backers, supporters, contributors and collaborators. Thank you all - we made this happen together. For the most up to date info on the film, please visit our website.)
