Update #11: domekit generator update
Update #10: domeraisings
here's a 3V 5/9 icosahedron (one of the large domekits) raised by robby kraft of portland, oregon. if anyone else has domeraising photos, please let us know, we'd love to see 'em!
Update #9: shipped
we're excited to report that all of the domes have been shipped! we worked super-hard last week to color code 3600 dowels (about 450 pounds) and divvy them into boxes along with flexible tubing and 3d-printed connector sets. inside the box, you'll also find assembly documentation to help you put it together — linked below are the pdf versions:
once you assemble your dome, please send us a picture! you can tweet us a link @domekitcc or a kickstarter message will do just fine.
thanks so much to everyone for their support and encouragement. stay tuned for more developments on the generator tool, coming soon!
Update #8: building & assembly
we've been busy assembling connectors and preparing to ship out the first batch of domekits! last week, we took a (much needed) vacation to emerald isle, north carolina and with the help of some friends, we were able to assemble almost all of the flexible tubing connectors. the dowels are scheduled to arrive tomorrow, and with a little bit of luck we should have everything shipped out by the end of the week.
our software team has compiled the first prototype of the generator tool, this link has been posted on the secret development log (http://domekit.tumblr.com). we've also posted the preliminary assembly documentation, so check it out! if you donated $19 or more, you should have already received the password. if not, please send us a message.
Update #7: procurement
all of the parts for the domekit fabrication run have been ordered and are on the way to EFFALO HQ in brooklyn, nyc. the shipping boxes and hardware have already arrived and assembly of the 3d-printed connectors has been completed (a task which involved threading 600 nuts onto 600 bolts).
the only item that requires lead time is the dowels — we've ordered 3600 of them; they're being pre-cut by a robot to four different lengths and should be ready in about a week and a half. in the meantime, we have to assemble a surplus of flexible tubing connectors, which should keep us busy for a while. we hope to have everything delivered by the end of the month. we'll keep you updated if anything changes!
the generator software is also approaching a prototype, more news on this as it develops.
