About this project

OVERVIEW
A little over 8 months ago I launched a project where together we raised the $8,000 I needed to Kickstart my 2-year voyage around the world.

When the project closed, my boat, BOBBIE, was hauled from the water to a shipyard where friends and I labored for weeks to ready her for her great adventure. . . . Photobucket
In January, she was christened, packed with provisions and then shoved out onto the wild blue road... Photobucket Since departure I've sailed over 1,500 miles, watched humpbacks broaching off my bow, slept in a bed of squid, and spent many a night staring dreamily at the vast black sky... Photobucket At the moment, Bobbie and I are in southern Mexico in a town called La Cruz de Huanacaxtle getting the last bits of gear aboard before we head offshore for the remote island nations of the South Pacific.Photobucket WHAT THE MONEY'S FOR
This round of funding is 100% dedicated to acquiring some essential safety gear: an offshore liferaft, a satellite phone and minutes, a medical kit, and a small assortment of storm sails and drogue for heaving-to in heavy weather. Photobucket CHALLENGE GRANT: Double your money, man.
These pieces of gear are so expensive the thought of raising money to cover the costs had previously seemed incredibly daunting until a few weeks ago when a terrific company called BrightBuilt Barn stepped in and offered to lend a hand. BrightBuilt Barn is willing to put up $5,000 if we can successfully meet my goal on here....so $5,000 on Kickstarter will actually yield $10,000 in safety gear!

TIMING + WEATHER WINDOWS
There's a bit of time pressure on this campaign as I only have until mid-April to raise the money in order for me to receive the gear before I head offshore for French Polynesia.
