4. We started a POP UP Farm Stand on fridays for our community to come buy produce with out having to commit to a CSA share.

Items we have not had time or resources to get to:

The Farm update

Update #11 · May 30, 2012 · 1 comment

It's been 2 months since our last update and we thought it was time for some pictures and info of the progress we have made. Our plans have changed a bit but we are still on schedule, by the end of the week we will have over 70 beds built (90% planted), including a recently updated and working green house with water collection from the roof. This past weekend our new members all gathered and we did the last push to remove all the toxic lumber and unused material from the lot.

The 1st change is we have started working with with a local brew master in Providence and will be growing organic 'hops' at the farm, which require building custom grow stations to hold 25' tall plants. We are not aware of any other Urban farms in Providence doing this and excited as the produce of this harvest will work nicely with the cooking classes and events we have planed for the future.

The 2nd change is to build a have a location for hens so we can get fresh eggs, along with a bee hive for honey and help with pollination of the plants both of these are big decisions as they require extra time, construction cost, and space. But we feel that the outcome of both of these decisions are important items for our small Urban Farm to be successful.

Time for an update

Update #10 · Mar 30, 2012 · comment

we thought you all would like to get another update on how your donations are being used. At this point we are finishing our design and build out of the remaining beds, and putting a master list together of all the items which need to be done what we are discovering is that growing very quickly,  as much as we want to do everything this spring we need to separate the items based on what has to be done this season and what can be done in the future.

Green House report

Update #9 · Mar 18, 2012 · comment

Today in Providence it was a blue sky day with temps over 60 degrees, with the weather forecasting this week to be in the 70's it was a great day to start the long process of restoring the main green house on our new urban farm.

1st step was to remove all the broken windows, rotten wood, and broken parts to get a good look at what was still good

2nd step was to work on the interior of the structure, which included: removing all the added dirt, fix the water ballast, repair the walkway, and remove all the clutter.

3rd step was to do a good inspection, I found quite a bit of damaged material, mold, and poor wood joints, and wood work. I will keep the structure apart this week to allow the wood to dry and breath before I apply the 1st coat of interior paint and prep for new wall construction, and new clear roof panels.

A few pics from today showing were we started and how the day ended :)
