About this project
For the third year in a row, the fearless students and faculty at East Hollywood High School are adapting a Shakespeare play, in its original language, into a full-length feature film. This year's play is the granddaddy of them all, the bloodbath to end all bloodbaths: Hamlet.
Taking cues from Utah's intense and deeply weird local history, we have transplanted the power struggles of the Danish royal family to an isolated, frontier outpost in the Utah territory in the late 1800's.
As of today, we have written a screenplay, cast actors, trained the crew, built the most elaborate sets in our school's history, secured the cooperation of our local frontier reenactment village for exteriors, and have now begun filming--all on a budget that contains only two line items: one song and one prayer. But now the song done ran out and we need money!
As everyone knows, public schools are allocated less and less money each year for arts education. Our film program provides not only intense art and media experience, but also training for real-world jobs in an authentic work situation. Your donations will enhance both of these goals by allowing us to upgrade equipment to professional levels, transport more students to exotic filming locations (i.e., Fillmore, Utah), and fix all the equipment we break along the way. The school pays the teachers' salaries, so 100% of every dollar donated goes directly toward the completion of this film and will greatly enhance the students' experience. Our primary cast and crew will leave our production primed and ready to get to work on a variety of creative endeavors, and to shine as the best-prepared working artists in their college programs.
We'll thank you for your donation with DVD's of past work, including last year's quirky modern version of Much Ado About Nothing. Local donors can also grab passes to the film's premier this Fall at the Tower Theater in Salt Lake City. Throw in a couple extra bucks, and we'll even tell you the secret location of the after-party, featuring for the second year the famed party beverage, Bucket o' Blood.

East Hollywood High, a public, charter high school, offers a unique and powerful learning experience for students who are passionate about learning film production and related arts and media while they also prepare for college. Such an experience is created by blending mastery of the core curriculum, apprenticeship learning, smaller class and student body sizes, and opportunities for students to extend their education into the film production industry.
