Sydney-based theatre company, The Earthcrosser Company, are staging a production of 'Cold', by renowned Swedish playwright Lars Norén. The play will have a one week performance season at the Parade Space (NIDA) from May 11-14.

The play has been translated to English from its Swedish original for the purposes of this production, making this the first time 'Cold' will be performed in Australia.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

'Cold' is a frighteningly realistic and shocking account of violence driven by social discrimination and serves as a study of the intricate yet extreme nature of intolerance that exists between human beings.

Two young men are celebrating the end of high school in the afternoon sun by a lake. They are joined by a third young man who was expelled from the same school a few years earlier. The three of them are drunk, frustrated and contemptuous of everything and everyone in their surroundings. A fourth young man wanders past and by doing so unwittingly challenges the boys' patriarchal working class background and their ferocious belief in a conservative Sweden. In a few short hours, all four boys are subsequently caught in a rapidly spinning spiral of violence with terrible and fateful outcomes.

'Cold' is directed by Shiereen Magsalin and performed by Aidan Gillett, Alistair Cooke, Jey Osman and Silvan Rus.

WHAT WE NEED:

Raising money for an independent theatre production is no easy feat and we want to give the creation of this work the best possible opportunity! We are asking you help us raise $2500 through Kickstarter. This is only a portion of our budget, but will cover production and administrative costs including sound and lighting equipment hire, and costs associated with professionally translating this play into English.

We're putting much energy, time and passion into bringing Lars Norén's courageous play from the other side of the world to the Australian market. In addition to exploring new artistic perspectives and practices, Cold is a work which will awaken the social conscience of the community, addressing discrimination and violence in very real, relative and understandable terms. We believe in its power, its relevance and the need for it to be seen.
