Dislecksia: The Movie brings to light the startling statistics about dyslexia and the changes that can be made to teach millions of kids how to read.
I’m Harvey Hubbell V, and I’m a dyslexic. Don’t know what that means? You’re not alone. There are teachers and administrators, moms and dads, kids and policy-makers who don’t know what it means either. That’s where “Dislecksia: The Movie” comes in. Meet the students who are still struggling to read. Meet the parents who spend their lives advocating to deaf ears. Meet the teachers trying to fix the system. Meet the legislatures who make the difference. And meet the brains (and the brain scientists) who make it all possible.
In the end…find the solution.
We are producing the most comprehensive documentary about dyslexia ever, and we’ve come this far with a cadre of dedicated professionals, great volunteers, and generous angels. A professional video mix is the last step in creating a broadcast quality film, and raising $15,000 will get us through this mix and on to the final-final stages of post-production.
If we raise more than our goal, we pledge to recycle 5% of any additional funds back to the the many other worthwhile Kickstarter Projects. Everything else will go toward film festival applications to move “Dislecksia: The Movie” out of Litchfield, CT and across the globe. Our film will be the vehicle our supporters need for change to happen.
What change? Teacher training that takes into account learning differences, and that uses research based methods to reach more kids. Legislation that protects dyslexics within the education system, but does not disable them, through early intervention. And public awareness. Lots of public awareness.
Now is the time for change in our educational system, legislature, and society to occur. Every day that goes by, irreversible damage is done to these students that are not being helped. Please, let's teach these kids to read together.
