Update #20: Liner Notes are Ready

Posted on August 4, 2011

Hey Kickstarters,

Just wanted to let you know that the Texodus Special Edition Liner Notes is ready to ship! I will ship copies of the Liner Notes to all backers at the $250 level and up. Everyone else can purchase the book at my cost for the next 7 days. After that, I will raise the price, and they'll be available to the general public.

If for some reason you don't get to order your copy in the next 7 days, you will still be eligible for the special pricing. You'll just need to send me an email at dylansneedmusic@gmail.com, and we'll work it out.

For the paperback edition, click here.

For the hard back edition, click here.

Also, don't forget to visit the new Dylan Sneed Merch, where you can order a limited edition Go Dutch With Dylan letterpress poster designed by world famous Hatch Show Print.

I'm excited for you to see these books!

Thanks for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #17: The Final Few

Posted on July 19, 2010

Today I sent off a big box-worth of records to the last few Kickstarter pledgers and the folks who pre-ordered Texodus since April 1.

There are only a few knots left untied, including three house concerts to play and a few addresses I still need. But other than that, we're done!

If you feel you have NOT received your pledge reward, please contact me and we'll get to the bottom of it.

I can't thank you enough for all the support, and I'm excited for you to hear the record that YOU made possible. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for plans of the official release campaign of Texodus.

Thanks for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #16: Shipping Progress

Posted on June 19, 2010

Hey Kickstarters,

Greetings from the road. I'm up in Portland, OR, staying with my buddy Andrew Norsworthy. Check out his music here: http://www.andrewnorsworthy.com.

The CDs are done, and they came in the mail a couple of days ago. I've got a few days off from shows, so I've set about to packaging up your pledge rewards. I've got 140 to put together and send, so this is my plan: package up 10 per day, which means I'll be done with this in 2 weeks, and I'll hopefully be able to keep up with my normal booking/promotion workload. I'll do my best to get you your CDs, t-shirts, and thank you cards in a timely manner.

For those of you who have received the digital copy of the album, what do you think? We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

I won't post the tracks to Myspace and my official website until I've sent all the packages out, as I want the Kickstarter pledgers to hear the album first.

If you feel you should have received a digital copy of the album or a thank you video and you have not, please let me know, and I'll make it right.

Thanks again for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #15: Thank You Cards, Digital Copies Being Mailed

Posted on May 29, 2010

I've put the first few Texodus thank you cards in the mail. Watch your mailboxes for the next few days as more will continue to go out.

Also, I'm sending the digital copy of Texodus out to the folks who selected that reward. You'll receive an email in about 30 minutes from Yousendit.com, a file-sharing service. The email will contain a download link. Simply click the link and then follow the instructions on the screen to start downloading the album.

THIS IS IMPORTANT! You only have 14 days until the link expires, so please download the album ASAP.

Once the download is complete, you will need to double-click on the file Texodus.zip. This will "unzip" the file. You'll then see a folder called Texodus. Inside will be 12 songs and a .jpg file of the cover art. You can upload the songs and the cover art to iTunes, or another media player.

If you have any trouble at all, please email me at dylansneedmusic@gmail.com, and we'll get it straightened out. I'm so excited for you to hear the record. Thanks for being a part of this project.

More updates on rewards soon.

Dylan

Update #14: Be on the look out!

Posted on May 24, 2010

The master is done! The artwork is done! I've sent everything off to the manufacturers, so this means I'll be getting the physical CDs back in mid-June. It also means that I can start sending off the digital copies of Texodus to those who selected that reward. Also, the personalized videos from the Texodus cabin will go out this week, as will the thank-you cards.

So be on the lookout! For the electronic files I'll be using a service called Yousendit.com. It's very easy to use. No sign up required. Just click on the link that appears in the email and start downloading your goodies. Please let me know if you have any trouble with any of the files, and I will make it right.

Thank you so much! This is an exciting week for me. Hope you enjoy your rewards.

Update #13: Mixing is done

Posted on May 12, 2010

We finished mixing the album today. Now it's off to Nashville to be mastered. This is the finishing touch process that gives it that professional sound that we want.

The mixes sound great! Jonathan Byrd has been doing a killer job.

I'm working on the content for the liner notes today. I'll send it off to Jeff Rogers so he can fit it into his design of the album art. I've seen comps of this, and it looks great, thanks to Jeff's good eye and Wade Griffith's fantastic photography.

We're moving right along, and it's all thanks to you. Those of you who requested the advanced digital copy of Texodus could receive it as early as next week! I'll be in touch.

Thanks for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #12: The First Mixes

Posted on May 6, 2010

Hey Kickstarters,

Just wanted to let you know that Texodus is coming along swimmingly.

After finishing the recording, we've passed the record on to Jonathan, our mixing engineer. He's going to get all the levels where they should be, then we'll pass it on to Erik, the mastering engineer, who will put the final spit shine on it. Then it's off to the manufacturers to get pressed.

Just wanted to make sure you knew we're still hard at work. It's sounding so good. I think you guys are gonna like it. Can't wait to share it with you.

Be sending you another update soon,

Dylan

Update #11: Texodus Tracking Finished

Posted on April 20, 2010

The weekend at the Hunt House was nothing less than magical. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the pledgers who made this time possible. The album is getting some additional piano tracks and some editing before we send it off to mixing. We're on track for an early summer release. As soon as I get it in my hands, I'll start mailing off the pre-orders. More details will follow.

To see more of Wade Griffith's beautiful photos from the session, go here: http://wadegriffith.net/. Click on "Recent Work."

Update #10: The Final Countdown

Posted on March 29, 2010

As we near the end of the allotted pledging time, my excitement about this project continues to grow. This process has been immensely encouraging to me as an artist, and I want to thank you all for your support. You've allowed my team and I to focus on the music and the artistry of this album instead of worrying about how we were gonna pay for the dadgum thing.

That being said, we have a little over 2 days left to accept pledges. That means that you and your friends can still be an integral part of this project. Any funds that we receive now will help us buy nicer packaging for the CD, help us eat during the week of recording (keep in mind the cabin where we're recording is miles from any store, so we're bringing in groceries and supplies), and increase the musicians' stipends (they deserve a lot more than what they're asking for!)

Thanks for your kindness and generosity and encouragement. We can't wait to make this record.

This is the last Kickstarter update I plan to send out, so I bid you all adieu. See you on the road.

Dylan

Update #9: No Need To Stop Now

Posted on March 22, 2010

Friends, we've been basking in the glow of our fully-funded project for about 5 days, and it feels really good. Final plans are coming into place, and I wanted to share some Texodus news with you.

First of all, we've STILL been getting pledges and are up to 103% of our fundraising goal as of the writing of this update. Pledging is open until Midnight, April 1. If you'd like to be a part of this project, there's still time.

Second, I just got a call from my friend Wade today. Wade is a photographer in Dallas, and has taken some great photos for me in the past. He called today to tell me he wants to fly out to South Carolina and document the recording sessions of Texodus (with both stills and videos)--and all on his own dime. I'm blown away once again.

So here's one more challenge for you: If we get 6 more pledges for a signed copy of Texodus from now until Midnight, April 1, we'll most likely be able to get the physical CDs manufactured in time for my summer tour. We're cutting it close, but with a little more money we can upgrade to a rushed turn around time. Can we do it? I won't be surprised if we do, because you've shown me over and again how generous and supportive you are.

Thanks once again for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #8: You Did It!

Posted on March 17, 2010

You've pledged 101% of the funds needed to make my new record, Texodus. Wow!

And guess what? We've still got 2 weeks left to accept pledges. Extra funds will go to nicer CD packaging (and possibly a larger order of CDs), equipment rentals, and musician stipends. Pre-order your copy of signed copy of Texodus for a $20 pledge (includes shipping & handling).

I'm so encouraged by your support. We are going to make a great record for you.

Thank you for putting your money where your mouth is,

Dylan

Update #7: Only 10% Left :)

Posted on March 15, 2010

Friends, family, and strangers, you have blown me away with your generosity and support. The Texodus project is 90% funded as of right now, and we still have over 2 weeks left to accept pledges.

Let's shoot for 95% by this weekend. I think we can do it. That's less than $300, or in other words

1 mention in the Special Thanks section and 1 Tshirt/signed CD combo,

or

15 signed copies of Texodus,

or

3 personalized video messages from the Texodus recording site.

The possibilities are endless, thanks to you.

I'm so proud to be this close to making a record that's funded not by a label, but by true blue music fans. We're working hard getting all our logistics lined up for the big weekend. Please help us reach our goal so we can share this music with you.

Thanks for supporting independent music,

Dylan

Update #6: The Last G

Posted on March 8, 2010

Friends, you've blown me away with your generosity and support. We're so close to the goal. In fact, we've got less than $1,000 to go.

Since we're so close and we've still got 23 days left, I wanted to tell you what will happen in the case that we raise more than our goal of $6,000. First of all, we'll get to keep it. But how will we use the extra money?

Any extra funds will go into three main areas:

Packaging. I've budgeted for a nice, but very simple package for the CD. If we get a little extra money, we can afford to print the lyrics on an insert, and even make the CD case out of more environmentally-friendly materials.

Equipment rentals. We've got a very stripped down set up as of now, but with a little extra money we can afford to rent or maybe even buy some nicer microphones, pre-amps, etc. to give you an even better sounding product.

Musician stipends. As of now the talented musicians who have committed to be a part of this project are offering me their time and effort for just gas money and food. I would love to leave them with a little money in their pockets to show how much I appreciate their time, effort, and talents.

Let's shoot for 90% by this weekend. If you've already made a donation, please share this project with your friends and family. Any amount helps. Let's see how much we can raise!

Thanks for your support,

Dylan

Connected as Dylan Sneed (2031 friends)

In early January 2006, adorned in poor-fitting, borrowed business casual, Dylan Sneed slumped in a cubicle of a cold office building in downtown Dallas, TX. Over his short but painful tenure in the machine of corporate America he learned many lessons, but one prevailed above the rest: this was not where he was supposed to spend the rest of his life.

Four years and over 50,000 miles later, Dylan has become a full-fledged road warrior, and is recognized as an "A-list tunesmith" (Darryl Smyers, Dallas Observer). After escaping his corporate confines he began booking national tours the grassroots way, making friends and fans one at a time across the country.

NO WORSE FOR THE WEAR
After finding his audience on the road, Sneed began to find his voice in the studio. The Dallas Observer praised his 2007 EP No Worse For The Wear as “one of the best local releases of the year.”

ALPHABET SOUP
When not writing his own music, Sneed found other ways to stretch his creativity. For every installment of his 2007-08 concert series called "Alphabet Soup," Sneed and several Dallas area songwriters built a unique 10-song set of covers and originals around an audience-suggested word. Each new word began with a randomly selected letter (e.g., "H" is for "Hasselhoff."). Together Sneed and his friends learned and performed nearly 160 songs in 9 months. He still plans to make it all the way through the alphabet.

BRIAN VANDER ARK / KRISTY KRUGER
In 2008 Dylan took on his first work as a sideman for other artists. He toured with Brian Vander Ark (The Verve Pipe) and award-winning Texas songwriter Kristy Kruger, playing electric and acoustic guitar and banjo. He continues to collaborate in this way with artists across the country.

TEXODUS
The end of 2008 brought about the biggest change in Sneed's career so far. On August 31 he packed his few remaining possessions and set off on his last tour as a Texas resident. He called the tour "Texodus," and kicked it off with a synonymous event that featured 9 of his closest musical compatriots from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The long, emotional night was a great success, and preceded three weeks of shows along the way to Hartsville, South Carolina, the small southern town that has become Dylan's new home base.

HOME SWEET HOME
In the summer of 2009 Dylan and fellow Texas songwriter David Ramirez booked two weeks of house concerts across the South and Midwest. The duo called their tour "Home Sweet Home." The songwriters' mission was to spread the word of the house concert format, teaching aspiring hosts how to organize these intimate nights of music and community. Both artists continue to play house concerts across the country today.
