I'll honor any refund requests as they come in. This is not as scam, it's just a generic horror story about trying to build incredibly complex projects on a shoestring budget. We do plan to honor all reward promises, however.
It's also not accurate to say there have been zero releases. In fact, we've released more content than most of the other P&P RPGs, like Chronicles of the Void or Far West. I'm really sorry you feel this way, how can I fix it?
Creator Chris Koch on March 26
I kind of feel like I'm owed a refund at this point. What do you plan on doing for people who pledged the $15 "all releases for the next year and a half" reward level? It's been nearly a year, 8 months since Legend was projected to be released in the kickstarter, and there have been zero releases. I'm assuming this wasn't set out to be a scam, but after a year with no results it looks super shady.
Creator Jacob Kurzer on January 15
I hope that answers some questions?
Creator Jacob Kurzer on January 15
To clarify, the job I took prohibits me from working on Legend, as do most of the jobs I could possibly take. In real life, I'm a computer programmer who's worked for places like Bioware Austin. This means that most places I can work have NC or IP-control agreements that are quite stringent.
Creator Jacob Kurzer on January 15
We have a pretty big announce coming up, but it's not unmitigatedly good news. The four second summary is that I wasn't able to make enough to work on Legend full-time, the team is doing well, and the final release appears to be content complete. With the 1.0 release, I'll probably be leaving the team. We still plan to fulfill kickstarter rewards, and I'll be taking my first vacation in three years sometime in the next eight months. I'll try to make that vacation in Austin, so that we can tie off some of the rewards that we might otherwise have to renege on. If I can't, we'll refund them.
On Leatherbounds: We do expect to produce them, and we're now looking into the possibility of doing a larger print run as part of the process of severing our affiliation with Child's Play. Child's Play has been.... well, it's been a rocky relationship that I don't regret but I don't think the team is eager to continue it without me. With the advent of proper printing, doing the leatherbounds should be a lot easier.
I'm a bit off message here, the team was hoping to hold most of these announcements until 1.0 drops soon. But I think it needs to be said.
Creator Magentawolf on January 14
Huh. The last update was back in October?
Creator N. Cook on December 8
So how goes the production of the official Legend release and is there an ETA on the leather bound copies?
Creator Cody Marbach on November 8, 2012
Hey guys, any word on that forum that was mentioned a while back? It'd be cool to have a dedicated place to post our own tracks, setting mods, and other cool Legend stuff!
Really looking forward to the final product, my group is still a big fan of Legend!
Creator Jacob Niese on April 11, 2012
I really like the syntax you use for monster and character stat blocks in the book and supplemental material. What did you guys use to make that, out of curiosity? I'm working on a single-session one shot for new players and I like the clean look of it.
Creator Billy Barnes on March 31, 2012
I can't wait for the final book!
Creator Magentawolf on March 29, 2012
Well, there's an extra $275 for you. I've been waiting to try and snag one of those physical copies. ^.^
Creator Yoder on March 12, 2012
I just want to thank you for making Legend. This system is an amazing re-haul of 3.5! The ease with which it can be extended is incredible, and I love how it simplifies and equates several elements of the game. I especially love the idea/implementation of skill games, as they elegantly fit many narrative events in campaigns that almost no other system is able to handle mechanically.
Creator Cody Marbach on March 12, 2012
I think the "the fluff is whatever you want it to be" in regards to the class's circles is one of the strengths of the system, when you look at how they do multiclassing.
It makes it easier to mix and match odd tracks to come up with really interested 'new' classes that are well represented mechanically, but would be a thematic nightmare.
Creator Hedrax on March 9, 2012
I actually quite like "the fluff is whatever you want it to be" personally. I have no issue coming up with flavor my self and have felt that the preset flavor found in some of the other games can be a slight damper on my creativity. And I love the names. So many references to some of my favorite movies and funny pop-culture. But this is all just my opinion.
Creator Shayan A on March 8, 2012
With all due respect, I'm afraid I don't quite see the charm in "the fluff is whatever you want it to be." I'd prefer the core rules to come with a solid amount of flavor (especially for each class's circles), maybe with a small section for each class on adapting the flavor to a different end. I know that everyone might not agree with me on this, but I'm not super-keen on tongue-in-cheek feat names. Other than that, I like the simplicity, elegance, and the track system. In terms of complexity, it's perfect, right up my alley: not focused on the minutiae as I found 3.5 to be at times, yet with more crunch than FATE. Your project is so delightful that I can't even for the full release!
Creator Jacob Kurzer on March 7, 2012
There will be some more stuff in the core book, don't worry. I've got the roadmap to 1.0 open in front of me, and there's.... There's work to be done.
Creator Billy Barnes on March 7, 2012
Here's what I think:
I'd like the system to be even more robust, if you are looking for things to add. No offense intended, but source books for campaigns and settings are nice, but that's not my cup of tea. I'd prefer more stuff in the book, if possible.
Creator Lagren on March 5, 2012
Emma's finished portrait looks excellent. Just enough of a tinge of "This person isn't quite a person" while still clearly being just like you or me...
It's uncanny. If you have not donated, you need to just to see it.

OSS should be in the Bonus Content section.
Creator Joseph Le May on March 5, 2012
So let's assume I am a backer, and I am slow. Where am I supposed to download Legend and OSS?
Creator Billy Barnes on March 5, 2012
Worth the wait
Creator Cody Marbach on February 29, 2012
@prototype00
I think this was mentioned on their website a while back, but I could be wrong.
Basically, for the Core Book, all proceeds go to Child's Play.
Other books, like a Monster Manual, Game Master Guide, Adeventure Modules and Setting Books, the proceeds go the Rule of Cool so they can actually make a living.
Creator prototype00 on February 29, 2012
Oh and if I might make a humble request as an even more humble backer? Many, many more illustrations of the halfling rogue. She's a cutie.
Creator prototype00 on February 29, 2012
Query: How is the author of this work making money if all proceeds on the core book go to childs play? Just curious.
Creator Cody Marbach on February 24, 2012
@michael davis
If you check out the chart form the update, there'll be more physical copies at $4500 (already grabbed), $5500, and $6500. So, keep checking back, and spread the word to help bring the total up!
You can always change your pledge before the end to grab a new, higher reward if something gets added.
Creator michael davis on February 24, 2012
from what I read out of Legend I am more than happy to contribute to it's continued success.
I would have liked to have gotten a physical copy but c'est la vie.
Creator Kevin Ryan on February 23, 2012
@JJ: It's worth noting that there was no "Child's Play drive" as a separate thing. Sales of the Legend Core Rules will *always* go to Child's Play. The special, limited-time thing was the "Pay What You Want" period. You'll be able to pick up the rules for some (unannounced) flat rate that will be 100% donated to Child's Play once they overhaul the site and get some art and fix some things, or so I understand.
Creator JJ on February 22, 2012
I'm glad you guys are doing this. I was too broke to contribute during the Child's Play drive and I'm super pumped to have a chance to support Legend.
Creator Zachariah Willoh on February 21, 2012
My gaming group's been with D&D in some form or another since 1996, and we met monthly until we switched to 4th edition. Since the switch to 4e in 2010 we've met three times.
This weekend, I got the boys together, I ran your Legend game. Had more fun than we rightfully should have as grown men with families. We all agreed to game again in 6 weeks, and set our calendars for it.
My pledge is the least I can do, but I wanted to say Thank You here - because you guys are doing something awesome with this game.
Creator Alessandro Ussia on February 21, 2012
How about some charts? They seem to work wonders... ;)
Creator Weimann on February 20, 2012
Legend is hand down the niftiest d20 system I've seen, bar none.
Creator Cody Marbach on February 20, 2012
This is the first game my fairly diverse group has been able to maintain both interest and mechanical involvement in for a long time. It strikes such a great balance between a breadth of useful abilities, ease of resolution, and the ability to make a very customized yet balanced character.
If you've got the kind of group that demands smooth gameplay, high customization, and speedy resolution, Legend is worth more than just a quick look.
Creator Gianluis Ramos on February 20, 2012
There is a special feeling one gets when you are able to support and help something you love directly as opposed to just twiddling my fingers and hoping it all works out. Can't wait to see all the backers' effort come to fruition.
Creator N. Cook on February 20, 2012
To say you are an avid fan of pen and paper rpg's and not become a backer of Jake and his amazing Legend RPG system would just be wrong.
