The App:
Bodies and Beats turns you into a digital mashup artist. Create your own video collages set to beats, and then change the elements with a touch of your finger to discover something new. This iOS app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is inspired by our original interactive video installation, Exquisite Motion Corpse.

How it Works:
Build your body! Pick from a video catalog of body segments – from the surreal to the hilarious – all accompanied by unique beats and sound effects from musicians like Mux Mool, Mogi Grumbles, Sun Hammer, and Beautiful Bells. Mix and remix the elements to create something crazy, something funny, something weird.

You control the video speed, with half-time and double-time controls. Or randomize the video clips to discover new combinations.

Backstory:
Our original four-channel video installation features a life-sized tower of screens controlled with a podium-mounted touchscreen. Users swap body segments synced to a beat clock.

Screen Print

A limited edition screen print on french paper, illustrated by Chris Sandon, printed at VGKids in Ypsilanti, MI. (24" x 9" Approx)  You get to choose one of the two designs.  Exclusive only to kickstarter backers.  Add $10 to pledge amount if want both. Avalalbile to any reward level that includes a screen print.

T-Shirt:

Beta Testing:
For those of you who are adventurous, you can beta test the app and provide us with feedback before it comes out. You will be given special installation instructions for your iOS device. 

Your Likeness in the App:
Your body in our app! You can either provide us with a photo of yourself, which we will bring to life, or you can come to a video shoot in Michigan, where we will record your body in motion!

Money and Contributions:
Most of the money will be used to develop the app itself: We’ll program a native app for the iOS platform, and test it to make sure it’s as bug-free as possible. The rest of the money will be used to create new content for the app. This includes shooting new video footage, animating enhanced backgrounds that sync to music, and working with some of our favorite musicians to make beats and sound effects exclusively for the app.

Deadlines:
The bodies and beats app is schedule to be released in the Winter of 2012. Other rewards like the T-shirt, screen print, and music downloads will be shipped in September 2012.

About the Creators:
Martin Thoburn is a pluralist artist working in a variety of media. With a background in graphic design, animation and digital media, Martin has produced and directed several short films, both animated and live-action. Determined not to be confined to any one medium, Martin continues to explore photography, live video mixing, design, collage, animation and motion graphics. His most recent film, FRAMES, has toured film festivals around the world.

Chris Sandon is a creative thinker who works with numerous art groups and organizations, including Spontaneous Art and the Shadow Art Fair. He explores various media including 2-D, video, installation, music, and performance art. He recently performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and at the Smithsonian.
