So I thought about just copying and pasting the info from the website into this area, but I figure that, chances are, if you're reading this, you've probably already been to the website (and if you haven't, you should totally go--I'm quite proud of it). In either case, I'm tired of repeating myself--and I figure this is definitely the place to take a more personal approach.
I'm working on my first album. It's going to be thirteen tracks of filky goodness made with the help of my friends Crystal Wolf and Gabrielle Stork, with multiple other musicians making guest appearences on several of the tracks. The album has sort of a ghost-story theme--not all of the characters on it are ghosts, necessarily, but most of them are pretty creepy. We've been recording since February and will hopefully wrap sometime in June. After that it's mixing and mastering, finishing up the last of the album artwork and graphic design, and sending everything off to the printer. The album is scheduled to release on December 1st of this year. I will start accepting pre-orders on November 1st.
Creating my own album has been a dream of mine for a long time now. When I was in middle and high school, I used to use every opportunity I could to obtain new CDs--but as anyone reading this who knows me might figure, the music on those CDs was in no way mainstream. It was filk. Each new album was another treasure to be studied and committed to memory. Each new song was like a piece of something finding its way home, and each one I learned expanded the world into something new and vibrant. That's what that music is to me, and that's why working on this album continually fills me with a sense of awe and wonder. It's hard to put into words and I probably came across as more than a little crazy just now, but suffice to say that this project is very important to me.
Unfortunately, dreams are often expensive, and this one is no different in that regard. The printing of the finished product, of course, has a hefty price tag, but then in order to do proper justice to the work that I and all of the wonderful people helping me did, I also need to have a budget for promotion. So when you make a pledge, that's what you're helping me to afford. At least that's one way of looking at it. Another way, of course--and I'm gonna get cheesy on you for a minute here--is that when you make a pledge, you're helping me to finance my dream.
I know that money doesn't grow on trees--obviously, or I wouldn't be asking for your help--so if you want to pledge but can't and still want to help out, I'd love for you to boost the signal. Direct people to the Dragon Scale Studios website or this Kickstarter page. Tell your friends and family. Tell random strangers if you think they'd be interested. Tell whomever--just tell people! That's really the second best way to help out with this project if you want to help.
So the bottom line is that I (and several other people) are hip-deep in this project and we need your help to see it through to the end. If you can help by chipping in even a few dollars or using word of mouth to publicize what we're trying to do, you will receive my undying thanks. And there really isn't much more I can say than that.
