@Jesse, as promised you will get a special stylus for being a beta tester. I also put together a video on tips for getting the best results. I think the days of paper note taking is numbered and we are at the forefront of this movement.

Great new Jae...as you might recall, I was a beta tester for the first one so if you are in need of that again, I'd like to throw my hat in.....

As of 2 months ago, I stopped writting on my iPad...Im getting way to fustrated with unreponsive stylus/apps. All I do is highlight but no handwritting......Im really looking for GOSMART to bring me back to life again!

I want to actually have approved pre-production samples in hand when we lauch the project so that we can provide it to reviewers that will spread the news. Thanks!

I was a beta tester for the first incarnation of the Beta Zeppelin and really loved the feel of it. Despite it's drawbacks, it was my stylus of choice and I really did not want to return it.

In fact, I hung onto it until GoSmart contacted me and offered to exchange the original beta tip for a new refined one. So I drove to Los Angeles with my well-worn Zeppelin 1st generation and left with the new tip inserted.

I am not sure if I am allowed to reveal anything here so I wont elaborate except to say that the new design is superior in every way to the old one without losing the sleek look or pinpoint view.

I will be testing it relentlessly. :)

Sorry for the delay. Refining the tip was a much more difficult than I had expected, but the new tip is redesigned and is much better so I've been using my iPad to take notes just like a paper notebook, but better.

I hope to relaunch in March as I am suppose to get the 3rd prototypes next week. Thanks for your continued interest.

Hi Chris, Thanks for asking. I didn't post because I am iterating with the supplier on getting the production tip manufacturing process perfected. I have been using the latest stylus prototype and pretty much have now converted over to taking notes using the iPad rather than paper and pen. Lot's of cool advantages like erasing, cutting and pasting and organizing with Noteshelf. I've also setup a twitter page @justgosmart and facebook page JustGoSmart to promote the project in a few weeks when I hopefully will have production ready samples to give to reviewers. Cheers, Jae

@ Jesse, Chis pointed out Jaja to me as well. Hard to tell, but it looks like it has a solid plastic bottom with the metal mesh ring design. Could be a patent infringement issue...

Today I saw photos of the disk and the springs from the supplier so the next step is to either laser weld the two or mechanically lock them in place like a rivet. We also started working on the new Kickstarter project which will be much more compelling.

I've just downloaded noteshelf and I have to recommend it to everyone! I am really surprised how much better it feels in comparison to notes plus which is a good app. With the effortless writing with the Zeppelin stylus, I've been just writing, doodling and sketching for a long time as if I was addicted. I actually think that the combination makes iPad a better tool than pen and paper. I am really excited!

I agree with Jonathan that the tip is what makes this design noteworthy as opposed to the shaft, but I would hesitate to focus on what it looks like so much as what it enables you to do. It is a great example of the age old Features vs. Benefits argument. In this case the reason behind the spiral is technically important to performance and arguably interesting, but what matters more to the average consumer is why that design makes the stylus a better item for them versus any one of the thousands of others available. IMHO, the added flexibility which increases the angles which it can comfortably used at (A proven liability of other designs) and the vastly improved visibility of the contact point are the two most important differentiating aspects of this concept and so should be the focus of its marketing, which of course would includes its name.

    29. Missing_small

      Creator g o o s e k e e p e r on October 11, 2011

      @Melissa, I like it...

Honestly, overall the best brand names either have age (weird names and time enough for people to catch on) or quick, simple and catchy names. At first I didn't even know how to spell Zeppelin.

Zeppelin and Rocket also point right at the body style that the current prototype has. This might and probably would change. There would be other models, not all of which would be retrofitted to resemble a classic rocket shape. What truly makes this stylus stand out is the coil tip.

If it were my product, I'd be looking toward that. First thought-- Pi Stylus. Easy to say, easy to remember. The spiral tip puts me in mind of the Pi spiral and of the golden ratio.

@Chris, Do I like the idea that the Zeppelin is exclusive to KS? Honestly, I don't really care. I just want one. If I had the funds, I'd approach him as a partner and try to fund it myself. Kickstarter is cool but you're still dealing with a mob. I'd guess that getting a project funded would instantly be very exciting and immediately after, fear would strike- pitchforks waving in the smoke... gimme gimme! But then again, I'm not the most patient person either...

We need to help him out, not just by pledging and forgetting but if we were to also, blog, FB update, Tweet and comment in forums to help spread the word- this would get it done.

We all have apps which work well wih such a stylus. Many of these apps have websites with forums where users talk about these very things. Hitting places like these would be a smart way to go because you're targeting your actual, would-be customers.

Hi. I 've just back your project and having read some of the comments below, I do agree you should have put a bit more emphasis on the marketing. Nevertheless the product is great but the stylus is more of an optional tool for the general users. By that I mean that most people (myself included) have been using the ipad2 for some time and without a stylus. I now see a need for it as I intend to do more more digital notes taking and with the speech functionality coming to the newer version of ipad, there may be a cool app to combine it all into a great package. Freeform writing is still a new areas.

    42. Missing_small

Creator Ken Daniels on October 9, 2011

I believe it would help to find a niche of users that need a more precise tool, perhaps because they use a particular app which requires lots of check oxen or something which could be frustrating to check off accurately. Maybe there is a game where it would be an advantage? Either way, once identified we could go into discussion boards and forums to recommend people come check it out.

      Sa Jang Nim,

I came on a little too late on this one. I don't know how Kickstarter works as far as restarting a project after it fails to reach its financing goals. I still think this one has a chance if can pull of a nice 9th inning rally.

Personally, I like the way you come off in the videos. I wouldn't call it dry at all. You come off as trustworthy and knowledgeable. The videos themselves can feel a little dry in that they get quite technical. Personally, I'd like to see more videos of people using them exactly the way your potential backers would be using them. I want to see more effortless handwriting and sketching, people painting with them, children coloring with them... less about capacitance. Most people don't care about that, they just want to see it work well.

If anything, you're just telling competitors how to make your product before you do.

I like the retro rocket look. It's catchy and clever. It might not appeal to everyone though. That could be a special model but there could be a more basic stylus that would have a more universally appealing form factor.

The name is also potentially a problem. When I think "Zeppelin" I either think of classic rock or a blimp. Neither of these things make me think of a stylus. Something more simple and catchy might be an idea that you could keep warm, if needed. If someone had shown me a picture of your prototype and asked me to guess its name, I'd have guessed "Rocket Stylus".

Screen scratching is a huge issue with people who buy these things. I would put more focus on that too. Fully insure that the design and materials do not scratch the screen and then really illustrate that.

I don't use Twitter either. Think it's stupid. If I did I would tweet about it. If I were you though, I would open a Twitter account not for personal use but for business promotion. It is a super highway of social information and ideally should be used.

I have other ideas as well, if you're interested.

      Jonathan
