About this project

Hello! My name is Jody Schneider. I’m a singer-songwriter who has been performing for nine years. Due to a cocktail of bad luck, unfortunate timing, and impossible circumstances (familiar to many in this economy, I’m sure), I am unable to tour, but have been doing shows in the Boise, Idaho area. Although it is a nice little city, it is an inconvenient place for an artist to be limited to.
The world of digital distribution has been good to me in that my fan-base has spread far beyond Idaho – in fact, I have more fans outside of America than in, and most of them have never seen me perform. Because it was impossible for me to tour, I was leaving out all these great fans who only had a 5-song EP to tide them over, while the comparatively small local audience was getting to hear everything I’ve written as it came to life.
The question became this: How can I possibly satisfy all of my far-away fans with new music when being a performer is taking up all my extra time and money?
The answer: Stop performing. Start recording.
I know, it sounds a little crazy. But I wouldn’t be the first artist to take this approach (Enya, The Knife). Not that I will never perform, but I believe that right now, with the bulk of my audience so far away, it makes absolute sense to spend my time and money creating the best music I can for them in my home with my own equipment, with the help of my very talented musician and technician friends. Maybe someday touring will be possible, but until then, I don’t want to stand still, and I don’t want to limit the reach of my music.
I would love to raise $4000 to invest in the equipment for a basic recording set-up in my house (so as not to limit the creative process with the per-hour pressure of a studio), and, with the help of my many talented musician and technician friends, produce my own music. My goal is to record at least ten of my songs over the year following, and many more in the years to come. I hope to not just sell MP3s, but to also sell songs to other artists and contribute music to projects being created by some talented friends in the film industry. One day (hopefully sooner than later) I would like to quit my day job so I can write and record full time.
I am not one to stand pounding on locked doors when I could be looking for open windows. The more I hear fans ask for new recordings, the more I believe that this project is my window. I hope you will listen to my music on MySpace and love it, and believe in it enough to help me make more. Your support means everything to me, and I look forward to hearing from you.
