About this project
Art Machine is an ultra-low budget narrative feature film written by Doug Karr & Nuno Faustino. We have already raised a good portion of the film's $200K budget and we hope to raise the other half through Kickstarter and private equity to take Art Machine from script to screen in the fall of 2010. The money you pledge will carry the film through to completion. Filmmaking is a very collaborative art and by raising money through a Kickstarter campaign, as opposed to traditional funding means, we hope the film will become a community project, and we will be updating and including you in every aspect of production. Directed by Karr, Art Machine will be produced and shot in NYC with an amazing cast and crew and will include performances and contributions from some fantastic bands and artists.
Art Machine is the story of child prodigy painter, Declan Truss, who at the age of six becomes recognized by the art world and propelled as a rare marvel. But by the time he's seventeen a chemical imbalance fueled the tightrope of notoriety has led Declan to develop a bipolar disorder. The focus on his painting is the only thing that keeps Declan on his medication. Searching for inspiration for a pressing coming-of-age solo show, Declan's world opens up when he meets a group of rebellious freethinkers in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Falling in love with incendiary outsider artist, Cassandra Moon, Declan reaches beyond painting and slips off his medication, quickly spinning out of control, and beginning to look to his family as part of a system that's keeping him down as he magnetizes the Bushwick rebels to take part in his progressively subversive art showcase.
Thank you for considering to become a partner in the creation of Art Machine!
