Hi Ammar,
I'm so sorry, and I understand why you're frustrated. I personally responded to your email earlier with a UPS tracking number. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to acquire one until this morning as our contacts at the Fulfillment Center aren't available on weekends. It seems there was a problem with the delivery address you provided when you originally backed us in our campaign. Please use your tracking number to confirm that we have the correct address, and, if not, I'm happy to contact UPS and give them a different address for you.
Many apologies for the long wait. If you can confirm your address with me via email, I'll make sure that either this package gets to you, or that we express a new package to you immediately.
Thank you,
Mary

where is my dot?!!
Earlier, I was trying to get an info regarding the shipping method you're going to use to send it but unfortunately I didn't get any response from you. I'm really disappointed with the turn out of the events after a series of delays and then you promised that I will receive it soon. Now I'm going to ask you again in which method you're sending it? is it through P.O. Box, DHL,or any other express courier?I need to know?I know this is not too much to ask, so please let me know as soon as possible because it's already way long overdue. i email you many many times but no reply from you!!!
i even email support@kogeto.com which you say will handle all issues but it seems you guys totally unprofessional, and i am feeling sorry for the support we all made here in kickstarter for you, because i can see people are not happy here... and all the excitement worn out.
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 11, 2011
Dave,
We don't want you to be unhappy, and we certainly don't want you to feel you have to write this off as a loss. As I've said, we view kickstarter as a way to collaborate to create great products. If you're unsatisfied, by all means return your Dot for a full refund. And maybe down the road technology will progress to a point where consumer-level products like Dot will be of interest to you.
In the meantime, I appreciate you taking the time to share your spirited comments.
Best,
Jeff
Creator Dave Castelnuovo on November 11, 2011
hey Jeff, thanks for replying. I understand what you are saying with the prototype, but when we put money into the kick starter campaign, I think the only real footage was stuff from the lucy cam. It might have been unrealistic but I was actually thinking the field of view and quality would be a little closer to that. and with the prototype shots, I did think that the production version would be better. especially with the accompanying emails saying how freaking awesome the production versions would be.
As far as those videos, they all show the same issues that we are talking about. I'm sure that you guys are very talented and this build of the dot, considering the development time, size of the device, low cost of manufacturing is probably quite an engineering feat. I think the issue is that there is a disconnect between the value of the engineering know-how that went to develop the existing dot, and the value to an end user that is oblivious to how hard it is to create a small device that snaps onto the existing iphone camera and doesn't have a ton of pixelation
from an end consumer's POV, there is an initial wow factor from the fact that you can take 360 video, but soon after you start to compare it to results of taking a normal video or picture and as long as the visual quality is so far off between the two, the 360 video will end up being more of a novelty instead of something you want to use to save a precious moment.
Out of the three videos you selected, I would say that they all look very pixelated. I'm sure this is from the dewarping process because you have to stretch an entire frame of video into a 360% panorama but it just lacks the clarity of a nice video, and without that, when I show my dot spots to people, I get a reaction of Oh, that's nice, instead of wow let's do that some more.
for the claustrophobic comments, that would be great if it can be taken care of by software of the viewer. it just seems that people are either super tiny, or they are super close up with most of their face cropped out of the shot. Once again, I think it has to start at the appeal of a video where it's easy to get people framed and visible in a shot and then add the 360 degree component on top of that. If it can't accomplish the same thing as a video, then it's an either or, you have to choose the 360 view but give us the sense of being there.
the glare is a complete deal breaker. If it was me, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable selling a device that has that kind of glare as consistently as it does.
I still believe in the promise of what the dot is meant to do. that's probably why I'm spending so much time here instead of just writing it off as a loss.
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 11, 2011
Thanks for reaching out. We appreciate your feedback and I’m more than happy to speak to your points specifically. But first, some recent dotspots which I believe show the quality of Dot and our iCONIC optic:
http://www.kogeto.com/dotspots/2O5HHMK89DW3 (taken on 4s)
http://www.kogeto.com/dotspots/9GXRBM78GDS3 (taken on 4)
http://www.kogeto.com/dotspots/2DGSUSD8RO8Y (taken on 4s)
You are correct that there is a fair amount of glare in our design, and this is something our engineering team is reviewing for either a revision to the existing design or in a subsequent iCONIC design down the road. We will let you know when we have results and what we decide to do, and as always, we will do whatever is necessary (within reason, of course) to make our Kickstarter backers happy. You were, after all, the first folks to get behind Dot, and it’s important to us to recognize that and to earn your loyalty.
As for the “claustrophobic” field of view, my sense is that this is related to the current field of view of our flash player, which was been set to be fairly wide in order to reduce the amount of scrolling to see the entire image. This is something we arrived at after feedback on the many beta dotspots we posted over the summer; the downside of such wide settings is that they produce more “fisheye” type distortion. The good news is that this is something we can tweak based on user feedback. We might even make the field of view adjustable, if that is something our users ask us to do. That’s the wonderful thing about software – we can continue to tweak and improve it after you’ve already received your Dots.
Toward that end, we will continue to revise our Looker app to make capture of good dotspots easier and more intuitive. In a couple weeks we will be submitting version 1.1, which will allow for live dewarping (no rendering required), and email-to-single user, and remove the time limit imposed on version 1.0. Moving beyond that build, we’ll be adding trimming controls, the ability to import media shot in other apps, as well as fine-tuning of our calibration interface.
One of the exciting things about Kickstarter is that it allows us to take you behind the curtain of Oz and show you how a product moves from concept to the production line, and involve you directly in the process. We’ve worked hard throughout this process to share examples from increasingly advanced prototypes to give our backers a good idea of what Dot would be able to deliver, and we are frankly extremely happy (glare issues and all) with the image quality that Dot delivers on the 720p sensor of the 4 and the 1080p sensor of the 4s.
In the end, it’s a messier process than simply shipping something brand new, but one we embrace enthusiastically because it allows us to have a dialogue with our users as we develop the process. Your feedback (positive and negative) is an essential part of that. Thanks again for letting us know what you like and don’t like about Dot –we’re working hard to make it better every day.

and for the record, just want to mention that all my video was taken on a 4s.
Creator Dave Castelnuovo on November 10, 2011
Jeff, I just want to make sure you are hearing us, because it sounds like you are in denial.
please post a video from the dot spot page that you feel is of good quality. For the life of me, I cant find one without two bands of glare, really bad compression artifacts, and a claustrophobic field of view.
I bought two dots, I tried both, same with each. but I think our standards need to be calibrated. please post a video that you feel is high quality and we can give our honest opinion of whether the quality of that video met our expectations when we first purchased the project or if it seems lackluster.

Creator Jeff Glasse on November 8, 2011
Hi Michael,
Sorry that you're not more happy with the product. Its possible that you're not seeing a huge difference between the 4 and the 4S because the video might not be properly calibrated. If you can take a look at these diagrams and let me know if this is what you're experiencing that might help us improve your experience.
https://kogeto.uservoice.com/admin/faqs/#!search…
Another problem could be that your phone might not be focusing properly. If you're holding your phone or have it set down somewhere, you can just tap the screen while filming to re-focus.
Focus and calibration will be automatic in the new software, along with other changes.
(Are your videos roughly this quality: http://www.kogeto.com/dotspots/7XS2X2RMU6Y5
This is a video just taken on the 4S with the same model that you've received.)
Glare is a separate issue and I hear your concerns about it, it's something that we're working on, we're testing new solutions, different methods of coating, it's a problem that is endemic to a lot of panoramic hardware and it's something we're really working on.
Please feel free to email mary at support@kogeto.com and we'll help you trouble shoot so you can get the most out of your Dot.
Thanks again for your support
Creator Michael Fonfara on November 8, 2011
I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the Video Quality and especially the rendering time. I thought I could get more out the Video with my 4S. But it seems, as it makes no difference.
But I can live with that.
But I can't live with the bright glare of light which takes 180 Degree of the video ( you can see it on the uploaded videos too). I think that could be fixed with kind of a sunscreen on top of the Lens. (Just make the black top stand over the lens).
And February is way late for going Retail ;)
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 8, 2011
Pardon me, the link to explain calibration was incorrect. The correct link is: http://kogeto.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/35170-what-is-calibration-
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 8, 2011
Thanks for reminding people about the protective film, Peter! A lot of customers have experienced the same problem.
I suspect your film might not be properly calibrated. Have a look at these diagrams and let me know if this is what you're experiencing.
https://kogeto.uservoice.com/admin/faqs/#!search…
Another problem is that your phone might not be focusing properly. If you're holding your phone or have it set down somewhere, just tap the screen in order to refocus it when you begin filming.
Focus and calibration will be automatic in the new software, along with other changes. This kind of feedback is exactly what we were hoping to get from you guys (our beta testers!).
Are your videos roughly this quality: http://www.kogeto.com/dotspots/7XS2X2RMU6Y5
This is a video just taken on the 4S with the same model that you've received.
Creator Peter A Richards on November 8, 2011
Just a reminder to all to make sure you remove the clear plastic film that protects the DOT lens ;^)
Creator Peter A Richards on November 8, 2011
Hi, I have the 4S, I eagerly plugged in my DOT and recorded some footage, and it was awful, unwatchable.
Then I realised I still had the clear plastic protector over the DOT.
I kicked myself and then peeled it off and eagerly awaited my 360 degree video!
Then after the processing... the quality was a bit better, but still awful and effectively unwatchable.
I bought a 4S to use with the DOT to get the best footage. The quality is terribly poor, and the suggested usage of put it on a table and forget it, just won't work, the vertical field of view is so incredibly narrow that you just get torsos, no heads or legs. It would have to be on a pillar at eye level to be of any use at all. I'm really disappointed. Am I doing something wrong? My footage looks nothing like the footage show to sell the product. Is there a setting I could be missing?
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 8, 2011
Hi guys!
Actually, the test footage isn't as good as the footage we're getting on the 4S! Even on the 4, we've been impressed by the quality we're getting in some of our customers DotSpots.
Maybe it's a technical issue or particular to your Dot. Feel free to message me at support@kogeto.com and maybe we can figure out if there's a problem.
Having said that - there is always room for improvement and we're constantly working on updates. The new version of Looker will include some of the updates you've mentioned here.
Creator Dave Castelnuovo on November 8, 2011
I am pretty surprised by how low quality the video is as well. I guess now I realize that the test footage was from a far more expensive piece of equipment, but that test footage was what sold me on the concept.
the way the video is now, it's just not something I would probably use. unfortunately I bought two DOTs. The video is extremely low quality, the vertical field of view is really tiny and feels claustrophobic.
Hopefully the optics can be improved and a new manufacturing run done soon. would we backers get new DOTS?
Creator Michael Aaron on November 8, 2011
Sorry, me again.
a few more thoughts-
You know how in iOS5 you can now use the volume button to take a picture? any chance this could be incorporated into your app? would keep you from having to grope around for the record button.
Also: maybe there could be an audible 3-beeps or something, counting down to when it actually starts recording. This way, you could look at the screen, press the record button, and then have time to hold it in the proper position again (or time to set it down on something)- I can see having a tripod platform hold the phone face down.
Creator Michael Aaron on November 8, 2011
I received my Dot and am playing around with it. A few observations:
1. i'm surprised at how low-quality the video looks, am I missing something? If it's a matter of the app downsizing the video so it is easily shareable, i'd rather have the option to have it at the highest resolution possible and then off-load it later
2. It would be great to have the FAQ's from the website (including the shooting tips) as part of the app itself- there is really no explanation at all as to what to do.
3. Belkin has a bluetooth remote to trigger the camera remotely - it has just passed through the FCC. This is supposed to work with their own app they have designed; would be great if it could work with yours as well.
Thank you
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 7, 2011
Hi Ryosuke!
Try processing your video with the "Smoothing" function turned off. We find this saves quite a bit of time and there's very little difference in film quality.
We're working on a new version of Looker that will make things like this even easier - but in the meantime this should help. Let us know!

Hi Jeff,
Got my dot today. I recorded a 3min video and it took approx 7mins for the app to process the conversion. Is there a way to shorten the time? If not, can the video conversion be done in background? thanks!
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 4, 2011
It happens to the best of us. I have my 4s set to go to sleep at 5 minutes to avoid just this problem.
Creator mpechner on November 4, 2011
Apology posted. The phone goes to sleep and that screws it up. I really should do more QA before I bitch.
Creator Jeff Glasse on November 4, 2011
Hmm, that shouldn't be the case. I suspect it might be a phone call or another program interrupting your recording. You can try turning your phone on airplane mode to see if that helps.
When recording, your video should stop at 3 minutes and automatically begin dewarping. Let us know if you are still having trouble!
Thanks,
Mary
Creator mpechner on November 4, 2011
I think I'm missing something.
I start looker, the 3 minute countdown starts.
Can't watch the timer. Well I could but it would be freaking dangerous to walk around that way. Unless I have the Dot pointing down.
So I don't notice the 3 minutes are up. I look at the phone, message: "Recording stopped" Which means recording lost.
You have a full screen to tell the truth.
"your 3 minutes are up. You ignored looker for too long and your video is GONE, Lost. Pay more attention to me next time!"
Did I miss a setting somewhere?
Or is there a feature fix coming that lets just have the video processed at the end of the 3 minutes?

Hi Chris,
Once we get the 4s we will test our optic with it and see - we wont know if it works until we test it. What will probably happen is that we'll be upgrading our backers to the 4S version in the event that the 4 optic isn't compatible with the 4S.
Thanks again,
Kogeto Team
I would suggest you join us on facebook and keep up with developments over there - we will be discussing our testing results and always love feedback.
The 4s is going to vastly improve the quality of Dot videos due to the 1080p resolution so we're really excited.
Thanks!
Creator Chris on October 6, 2011
Okay, so now here's the logical follow-up question, since we all know what Apple unveiled on Tuesday. The 4S maintains the exact same form factor as does the 4. Still planning on providing upgrades for the 5 (or whatever it ends up being called)? In all likelihood, the next gen iPhone after the 4S probably won't come out until June 2012 or later.
I'm curious what the thought process is moving forward after Apple's announcements.
Creator Jeff Glasse on October 4, 2011
Hi Chris,
Yes, it will be in addition to the 4 model! But keep in mind that Dot for iPhone 5 probably won't be available until early 2012.
Thanks again! We're so happy to have your support!
Cheers,

Creator Chris on October 3, 2011
HA!!! that's awesome about the iPhone 5 upgrade. Will that be in addition to the 4 model? or how is that going to work? I'm wondering if I can package my 4 with the dot on Craigslist (cuz, you know ... I'll be getting the 5 pronto!)
Thanks Kogeto team. CANNOT WAIT to get my dot and start playing!!

Hi there,
It looks like we had an error on the Amazon site! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. We've updated the shipping date to reflect the fact that general orders won't receive their Dots until the end of October.
Also - all Kickstarter Backers are getting a refund check for $20. It wasn't until a few weeks after we started the Kickstarter campaign that we settled on the final price for Dot. So, fear not, you'll be getting a check in the same package as your Dot.
You'll also be getting a FREE upgrade to the iPhone 5 version, as soon as it comes out.
Thanks so much for getting in touch and for calling our attention to this issue.
Again, you guys are the reason we could make this happen! You'll always be part of the Kogeto family!
Cheers,
Kogeto Team
Creator victorvusa on September 28, 2011
Individuals who pre-order from Amazon are paying $85 (shipping included). The listing on Amazon reports that the availability is October 1st (given new date info below, this likely needs revising). Kickstarter pre-orders that would result in getting a DOT were, at minimum, $98. Obviously I can read the pledge tier description to see what's being offered, but it had not been clear to me that retail customers would pay less. There's mention in earlier comments about an upgrade that will fit the inevitable new iPhone model. However, technically speaking, the pledge description doesn't explicitly promise a privilege regarding upgrades and what benefit it would entail for those who paid before general availability. Beyond the upgrade idea (for which, I'm hoping is a discount at least), can we expect that there might be further evolving of the privileges that Kogeto may choose to extend?

Hey beta testers!
You should have received an email by now detailing how to get a beta version of Looker on your iPhone 4 and how you can get access to our beta-tester-only community forum, anyone missed out on this email let me know.
Creator Jeff Glasse on September 11, 2011
Hi Rusty, sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you - I wanted to enough time to give you a full picture of what Beta testers are actually testing and when that will begin, as well as a more detailed understanding of where we are in our development process, as I'm sure there are other Kickstarter backers out there that share your questions and concerns.
First, let me be clear that beta testers will indeed be the absolutely first users to have dot in their hands. I’m sure you understand that, when developing a new product, exact shipping dates can be somewhat difficult to pin down (witness the white iPhone), and we’ve been doing our best to keep our Kickstarter followers (and the public at large) well informed without overwhelming them with the minute-to-minute details of product development (for that, you can check the daily updates on our facebook page, which Amelia has been working hard to make the central place to get a peek into the daily operations here at kogeto).
I can’t really tell you if you’ll have hardware for two weeks or a month before everyone else, but being a beta tester absolutely puts you at the front of the line. And it’s a growing line, as some announcements we’ll be making next week will show.
In addition to receiving Dot hardware before anyone else, you also will have access to Looker software next week, before it is released to the App store. More importantly, we will be making regular updates to our Looker software, and beta testers will continue to get early versions of Looker that we are testing before release to the general public. Given some of the things we are planning, I think you’ll enjoy being the first in the world to get your hands on them, long after you’ve received your Dot.
We look to our beta testers to be at the vanguard of the community of users that we turn to to teach us about the users' experience with each development of the Dot/Looker experience. I'm going to have a direct and ongoing relationship with our Beta testers starting with bi-weekly webinars where we can discuss the Beta experience and you guys can tell us what you really think - (when Google+ allows brands to have pages we’re considering moving this conversation to a live chat in Google+ - curious what you guys think about that). Beta testers are not only the early adopters that we'll be turning to with each new product, each new version of the app, each new development of Dot and iCONIC, they’re members of a unique group that was brave enough to make a bet on us back when dot was just a gleam in kogeto’s eye – and I can promise you we consider that an invaluable resource.
In short, we want you guys to stick with us - we have a lot of new ideas about where to take Dot next and we want you there each step of the way.
We're sending out instructions about how you can receive the app on Monday, September 12. We want to get you acquainted with Looker in time for when your Dots arrive (shipping will start around September 23, barring any unforeseen manufacturing issues). At this point, we hope to be talking to you guys regularly, each week, there is an open door policy for you at Kogeto - we want to know exactly what you think! The exact shipping of remaining Dots is somewhat dependent on when Looker will be available at the app store - I'll have to go into that with the next update as we really will really just be playing a waiting game with Apple at this point (though Apple has been very good to us so far).
In short, I want you to know that we consider you ongoing partners in our goal to bring something amazing to market. We're deeply invested in that relationship and we can't wait to get Dot off the assembly line and into your hands.
If you have any more questions, I hope you will not hesitate to contact me at jglasse@Kogeto.com
Best,
Jeff

Jeff, I see that your preorder page shows that people ordering the black dot can expect late Sept shipping. When will I as a Beta tester actually get to test? You said below Sept and we are a third through it, coupled with late Sept shipping for those who order now leave me confused as to what the beta testing really is and when in the next 20 days I may actually do some testing ahead of someone who simply buys one of the preorder units today for late Sept shipping. I am not sure why I paid so much to be a Beta tester at this point given the act pattern laid out above.
Creator Jeff Glasse on September 2, 2011
Hey everyone, new video update on facebook... Where is Dot? https://www.facebook.com/kogeto
Creator Jeff Glasse on August 11, 2011
Hi Rusty,
You're still totally right, the beta testers will still be getting the very first Dot units ahead of the other backers, and we are setting up forums for the beta testers to tell us about their experiences with the Dot and give us feedback for improvements. The beta testers will also be given access to our software for beta testing - we originally anticipated that we'd have our units ready in July / August but the reality is that with all the optical improvements we've been making to our iConic lens - it will take a little more time than originally anticipated and our Dots wont be ready until September.
Hope that clarifies things! We greatly value our beta backers, your support is invaluable to us and your feedback will go into shaping future Dots.
Creator Rusty Grafman on August 11, 2011
Jeff,
I did get the survey, but I was under the impression that we would be beta testing the units prior to the regular backers getting theirs and that the units would be beta versions, then we would get a final version after the beta is over. For some reaosn, I thought we would be testing the units in August.
