Super Heroes: Chapter IV

Update #21 · Jul 13, 2012 · comment

So we took yesterday off--logistics people--but we're almost to the end of our loooong list of mind-blowing folks that were like, "Make it rain bitchez!" in the final hours of our campaign. So! Raise the roof, cuz it's 1998, for the following:

Elizabeth Landon (Landy) Wellford

...Or Landy, Lon, Lonio... This is Kelsey's best friend since early childhood. We'll let Kelsey tell you about this generous bestie of hers:

"This girl is IT, you guys. Few people can say that the best pal they celebrated a birthday with at age 4, survived middle school with at 13, visited in VA at 17 and vacationed with at 25 (actually, there were far too many vacations to count, really) - not only still lives in the same city that you do but is someone you see almost every...single...week. We are definitely members of a lucky "friends forever" elite (cue Saved by the Bell's 'Zack Attack' single! YEAH!) Landy and her brother Carter grew up in the house right across the street (literally) from my grandmother in Westhaven (DE). Almost instantly, we were an unstoppable duo...even at age 4. That neighborhood never knew what hit 'em! Every weekend consisted of carefully planned bake sales, lemonade stands, bike trips (as soon as the training wheels were ditched), dinner parties (of the make-believe sort) and those oh-so-crucial secretarial sessions (Obviously these were make-believe as well, but don't THINK we didn't litter my "office/playroom" with tons of secondhand office phones and intercoms to make things seem as believable as possible. Props were always key!) I mean, Landy and I even planned sewer explorations (no really). Local ones. I think we thought we were the two forgotten Goonies. She was probably Data - just a tad less Asian. Landy is someone I have truly come to rely on without taking a single ounce of her selflessness for granted and yet, I know that she could change directions at a moment's notice and I'll never fault her for that. Our history is a special one. How did YOU survive those crazy adolescent years when everything just seemed (key word: seemed) more confusing and difficult than ever? Because I know, I, personally, was beyond fortunate to have Landy by my side. Middle school (heck, elementary school too) would have been a completely different experience had Lon and I not stuck by each other. She has now conquered D.C., after heading to George Washington University as an undergrad and this fall, she'll be attending Columbia University for her Master's. She's also given some of the biggest advertising firms of NYC a name to add to their wish lists too because Landy's worked for quite a few of them here but not a single one has managed to stifle her creative energies. She has always thought for herself and held her ground when it comes to what's important to her. In fact, so many of her mutual friends once considered her quiet when we were growing up in Delaware but I know, firsthand, that she is anything but. Oh and she has a smart mind for business too so beware, world. This girl is not easily duped. From random karaoke at the Italian Festival in Wilmington to our first (but definitely not last) trip to see The Thunder From DownUnder (ah-hem…that is now pronounced: "Ma-gic Mike") in Vegas...the memories, the firsts, the adventures and good golly, the LAUGHS (!!!) I've shared with Landy have been countless and thankfully I know they'll always be endless too. I only hope she knows how much her friendship has meant to me over the last 25 years. So much love for you, my dear ELW."

Aww. And so much love for Landy from the rest of us too for her generosity! Thanks so much, Landy!

Mike Murdock

Mike is an old friend of Laura's from the wilds of Appalachia. Or, you know, Huntington, WV, where they met at Marshall University. Along with a handful of previous backers, Mike is a part of the comedy podcast Slightly Burned Pants, and at this point if you STILL haven't given them a listen then we just don't even know what to tell you anymore. Get it together. That shit's hilarious. We've had so much fun with these guys on Twitter and Facebook and Mike has been such a supportive retweeter, and we are so appreciative of his vote of confidence and generosity. You can--and should--follow Mike on Twitter @tmichaelmurdock and Slightly Burned Pants @BurnedPants From the whole team, thank you Mike!

Dana Monforton

Well you've just got to be kididng. Already a charter member of The Double Down Club™, Dana went ahead and threw MORE money at us in the final hours, because that's just who she is. She's amazing. We're hard pressed to find someone more supportive of us, and we just can't even believe it. Thank you so, so much, Dana, for all of your help, support and generosity!

Andrew Zamorski

Prominent Chicagoan Andrew Zamorski is one of those people you just want to fold up, put in your pocket and carry around with you while feeding him crackers. He's just an adorable little hamster made into a grown man, or something! Always up for boozing, always good for a laugh, and always upbeat and positive, Andrew has just been a joy to get to know (mostly while publicly intoxicated at various parties and street festivals) over the years that John has been in and out of Chicago. Andrew works in marketing and communications and is currently studying at DePaul University, cuz he's fancypants. We really appreciate him throwing his hat into the ring in our final days and giving us his vote of confidence. Andrew, you're alright by us. From the whole team, thank you, Andrew!

Tracy Saucier

Well, here we are again: We have no idea who Tracy is. We've racked our brains, combed the intertubes, talked amongst ourselves--and we got nothin. And that, ladies and gents, is amazing. She's backed A LOT of stuff on Kickstarter, and none of them really alike, so we get the impression that "Saucy T," (as we nicknamed her five minutes ago) is just one of those super generous, enthusiastic supporters of things she thinks are interesting. And we think that's amazing. Tracy, we don't know who you are, but we sure do appreciate your support and really hope to make you laugh A LOT. If you find yourself in New York, the schnapps are on us! Thank you so, so much, Saucy T!

Tomorrow: our final round of thank yous! *sniff*
