At her father’s deathbed, Nicole promises to return to Islam. Here’s the trouble: Nicole is still openly queer. What will she do?
A note to potential Kickstarter backers, big and small, from Daaimah Mubashshir:
I got this far…
After a successful workshop production of The Untangling at The Junction at Prop Thtr in July of 2011. Daaimah made some revisions and is now excited to present again. The Untangling at the Junction will be apart of RhinoFest 2012. Running on Thursdays at 7pm January 19th- February 2nd 2012.
Ask yourself:
What does it mean if you lose yourself when you follow the rules then find God when you break them?
This is what happens
At her father’s deathbed, Nicole promises to return to Islam. Here’s the trouble: Nicole is still openly queer.
The Untangling at The Junction is a multi-character solo performance that incorporates Butoh (a Japanese style of dance/ movement) to investigate seemingly opposing identities.
I need you to back this.
I must raise at least $1,500 ($2,500 would be ideal) to support production costs for The Untangling at The Junction, which will tell the rarely told story of a African American queer trying to return to her Islamic Roots. I hope that this will be an opportunity for Kickstarter backers to help me bring a different perspective on the Queer Muslim experience to greater visibility.
Backing this project matters and will have a direct and immediate impact on my ability to bring this show to fringe and other solo performance festivals across the country.
Sincerely,
Daaimah Mubashshir
P.S. I know the subject matter of this show is highly charged emotionally and politically. I promise you this is going to be a funny show. I promise. I don’t like depressing work.
