Clem Snide is playing at the grand opening of the Desert Island Supply Co., a creative writing program for kids in Birmingham.
Join us on November 17 for a celebration of journeys (and Journey) with Clem Snide at the Desert Island Supply Co.
The Desert Island Supply Co. is a volunteer-run creative writing program for students in Birmingham, Ala. For the past few years, we have offered free writing workshops and tutoring sessions to hundreds of students from around the city.
On Saturday, November 17, we are celebrating our grand opening with a Hobbit Read-a-Thon, a day-long, out-loud, nonstop reading of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic about one of the greatest journeys ever taken.
To close out the Hobbit Read-a-Thon, we thought it would be perfect to have Clem Snide come down to play the hits, especially from Clem Snide's Journey, the album of Journey covers that Clem frontman/mainstay, Eef Barzelay, funded last year on Kickstarter after playing the band's "Faithfully" for the A.V. Club's Undercover Series.
We are selling tickets for this small, intimate show through Kickstarter. $20 gets you a ticket to the show, plus a high-quality download of Clem Snide's Journey. From there, the rewards just get cooler. It has been years since Clem/Eef has been to Birmingham, and he is excited to return for such a special occasion. He has chipped in for this effort with some amazing rewards over there to the right.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Most of the rewards are already made or are in the works. The sole big risk of this project is that Eef is traveling to Birmingham from Maine on November 17, and there's always the chance that a blizzard/thunderstorm could delay him. We are working with him to figure out a back-up plan, but we will refund the show if weather (or anything else) forces us to cancel.
