About this project
Here we go again!
The Dill Pickle Club (http://dillpickleclub.com/) a Portland-based nonprofit that organizes educational projects about place is publishing a guidebook to African American public art and needs your help in making the project come to fruition.
Walls of Pride will feature full-color photos of over a dozen works of public art. Included is a detailed map, interviews with artists Isaka Shamsud-Din and Adriene Cruz, a transcribed conversation between curator Robin Dunitz and history professor Reiko Hillyer, mural descriptions and artist biographies, and a bibliography.
We feel this is important as many public artworks have not survived the city's development. We want to create a historical document of what public art still exists in Portland. Further, we want to bring attention to these critical works, and celebrate our city's African American cultural heritage.
We will be working with a team of editors and artists in putting together the publication, including design by Ian Lynam (http://www.ianlynam.com/), photos by Gabriel Graffe (http://www.gabrielgraff.com/) and printing by Eberhardt Press (http://eberhardtpress.org/).
All told, the book will cost $2000 (covers $200; guts $250; color supplement $500; honoraria $600; design $250; marketing & promotion $200). A donor has set a matching challenge of $1000. If we're able to raise the remainder, the cost of production will be fully covered.
