100k stretch goal met!
Thank you all for your wonderful support! We've made it past the 100k stretch goal, and as promised the RGB kit has been lowered to $1 each!
The personal backer page has been updated to reflect the new price.
Check us out on Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/20/digispark-kickstarter-arduino-jr/
Production: There have been a few questions about producing this number of units. We previously said that we'd like to produce in house if possible, at this point we've exceed what we can produce in house and will be using a US fab and assembly company. We're still evaluating partners in this area, but the quantity (or even 5x it) is no problem for any of them. (9,987 Digisparks spoken for so far)
150k? 200k? Stretch Goals: We're open to ideas for some stretch goals, we're thinking things like stickers, 10 more shield kits, or a special shield when the Digispark Pro is released for original backers (we're a bit unclear if kickstarter would allow that?). We, unfortunately, can't do any more discounts on kits and shields.
Digispark in the Arduino Classroom Kit: The Digispark is now part of the Arduino Classroom Kit, also on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arduinoclassroomkit/arduino-inventors-classroom-kit-in-a-box-arduinoki/ Check it out!
Note: We think this is an awesome project, but we are not affiliated with it in any way.

@Anyone checking here - we have added cases!
Creator Ryan Blackwood on August 25, 2012
Not sure if anyone is still checking here, but Erik said they are very busy and aren't planning anything for enclosures.
He said that they don't have final specs on many of the shields yet either. That being said, when he does have the final dimensions, I plan to design several cases and will post them to Thingiverse. I'm also happy to print some for people who do not have 3D printers, and take requests for custom designs.
Creator Scott Tessier on August 23, 2012
how about a stepper shield? maybe even with a switec type stepper mounted to it? they are very low current steppers and would be a unique shield.
Creator Erik Kettenburg on August 22, 2012
See my comments on the main thread - thanks everyone for your input and support!
Creator Khaleb Sealey on August 22, 2012
White with Green silkscreen for kickstarter backers sounds amazing. The color of the shields isn't too important to me, They're made more for tinkering than for actual use.
Creator mj1984 on August 22, 2012
congrats for making 150k+
Creator Erik Kettenburg on August 22, 2012
We're working on i2c LCD kit, and we are using the numbers to command a good price on all our kit parts.
I've got a busy day today, so I won't get to an update until later but the $150k stretch goal will be special kickstarter edition of the Digisparks, likely both special text and colors. This won't apply to the shields and we reserve the right to sell any extras from production (we have to order over 10% more than we need to ensure against defective units).
Creator Agustin M. Sevilla III on August 22, 2012
Oooh I like the idea of the i2c LCD - that would be awesome!
Creator Kevin Cossio on August 22, 2012
What about using the volume of interest in this to negotiate a good price on some simple i2c character lcds, servos, motors, or some other popular components like that. I'm sure many people would buy if the price was good.
Creator karel1980 on August 22, 2012
As a potential stretch goal, maybe add a casing like the blink?
Creator Josh Marinacci on August 22, 2012
Regarding the next stretch goal: is there anything which is unfeasible now but becomes possible with a larger order? Thus the goal is to get the entire project to that larger order level. A custom color, special holes, brackets, everything made with pure columbia river glacier water, etc.
Creator Sparr Risher on August 21, 2012
@Martin I think Erik has previously said in the main comment thread that not only will they be unsoldered headers, but he will even include both male and female headers so you can use it on a breadboard or as a shield base (or both if we can find cheap long female headers!)
Creator John Mars on August 21, 2012
It may be a little more expensive, but I'll jump on the wagon and agree that a unified brand, i.e. consistant color schemes across boards, is very important. Pick a color and run with it; anything but black, red, or green. Be unique, be different. It's also important to keep the shields with the same product identity/color scheme. Brand recognition makes you money in the long run.
After looking at the Seeeduino link that Denis posted, it might be cool to have different colored headers.
If you go the route of white PCB/green silkscreen, do that only for Kickstarter backers, as a reward for our pledges. Pick a different color scheme for the production boards.
Creator Martin Kim on August 21, 2012
Please add the headers unsoldered because many of these boards won´t end up on breadboards but in prototyps and I want to have the choice to use them even without headers.
Creator Martin Kim on August 21, 2012
I think an exclusive PCB color would be a nice option for the 150k stretch goal.
Creator Martin Kim on August 21, 2012
I think Roy is right, all Digispark items should have the same color like the PCB of Sparkfun (red), Arduino (turquose blue) or the Lilypads (purple). I think I read something like the silk must be white so I would prefer black or if you can get an exclusive color ultramarin blue.
Creator Michael Meissner on August 21, 2012
Whoops I think I was unclear. I meant that the cost was more important to me than the color of the shield. So if having a purple and pink shield would increase the cost over a boring green shield with white lettering, more than $1 or so, go with the cheaper option.
Creator Roy Nielsen on August 21, 2012
Erik, I think that all the shields should be the same color combo to help build a brand identity. I do think purple with white silk would be cool and unique. Maybe put the board color up for a vote?
Creator Michael Meissner on August 21, 2012
If it impacts the cost, it doesn't matter to me what cost the shields are, nor the digispark. These aren't fashion accessories.
It would be useful to have each of the different shields in slightly different color combinations, so that it is easier to tell say the breakout shield A is different than breakout shield B. I don't know how many people are ordering multiple different shields, and I may be the only one with the potential problem.
Lets see for flexibility, I have currently have 2 through hole proto shields, 2 breakout shield A kits, 2 breakout shield B kits, 1 infrared shield kit, and 1 RGB shield kit along with 3 digisparks in my pledge. Currently, no MOSFET, motor, grove, or boost shields. Of course I have 19 days to change my mind again. :-)
One of the things that I found useful in doing my telegraph camera shutter, is having everything on a shield (Uno protoshield in this case), and then if I wanted to try something different, I would just have to take the shield off of the Uno, and wire up the new stuff, and then I can go back to the previous thing easily without having to reconnect all of the wires. Having 3 digisparks (and 1 Uno) will mean I don't have to tear down an existing project to try something new.
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 21, 2012
@mj1984: you can easily use one of the Breakout shields to control servos.
@Topic: I still like the idea of a white "main pcb" with green silk and kickstarter logo.
Creator Gautam Bhupal on August 21, 2012
I'll prefer white pcb for Digispark. For shields I'll prefer either weight or black pcb.
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 21, 2012
As I said earlier, I'd like black for the popular shields and blue for the less popular ones.
@Andrew: Nearly all Seeed PCBs are red: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/seeeduino-v30-atmega-328p-p-669.html…
Creator mj1984 on August 21, 2012
servo controller shield
Creator Andrew on August 21, 2012
I like the black for the popular shields, and the white for the main. I also like red, i have never seen a red board before.
Creator Erik Kettenburg on August 21, 2012
How do people feel about the most popular shields (most of them) being black with white silk, and the less popular being purple (like the prototype) with white silk?
Creator Mike Ransom on August 21, 2012
I agree with Dustin - not an issue if 'master' board is different from shields.
Creator Dustin on August 21, 2012
I think it's perhaps even better that the two boards don't match; this is lending itself rather well to the "hacking hardware" community, and the mismatched colors actually is preferable over one uniform color for all boards (IMHO)
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 21, 2012
If the shields have to have a white silkscreen, then would recommend using a black PCB.
Black shields and white Digispark!
Creator Erik Kettenburg on August 21, 2012
One thing I'm looking to get feedback on - if we do the Digisparks a special color White board/green silk - then the shields won't all be that color as well - what do people think of that? What color for the shields then? Shields have to have a white silkscreen, due to the fab that will be running them.
To be upfront: some of the not so popular shields will be run in whatever color we get a deal on, otherwise we'd take a big loss on them because fabs don't like to change colors for just 150 boards. But most of them will be made one color - green, black, yellow, white, blue or red.
Creator Erik Kettenburg on August 21, 2012
Thanks everyone - just wanted to say we're listening to all these ideas and looking at how viable they are.
More shields will happen for sure.
Stretch goals such as USB cables, power adapters, etc would only happen as additional items for purchase - with such a low cost device and the discounts we've given already there isn't any more room for freebies - that said we'd certainly keep any stretch goals very near cost.
White board with green silkscreen, I like it, I'll play with it and check with the fabs.
Thanks again everyone!
Creator Tyler Benson on August 21, 2012
I could see a motion sensor or distance sensor being a neat add on as well.
Creator Franck Bettinger on August 21, 2012
more shield kits would be great (especially IR and/or sonar distance sensor)
Creator Andrew Angus on August 20, 2012
A Digispark Kickstarter certificate for bragging rights?
Creator John Mars on August 20, 2012
+1 for the custom Kickstarter versions. I'm a fan of a white board, with a "B" backer and Kickstarter logos, green silkscreening, and a green LED.
Some reach goal ideas:
Custom USB cables, custom housings, stickers, coupons for your store after funding, rebates on the Digispark Pro, solar panel buttons, etc.
I think your best bet would be to come up with more shields. We'll be happy because there are more, and you'll be happy because we keep buying them.
Creator Andrew on August 20, 2012
more shield kits!!!!
Creator mj1984 on August 20, 2012
Thanks Dennis
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 20, 2012
Digispark Pro will be a different Project after this one! The major difference will be that you will have more I/O pins on Digispark Pro.
Creator mj1984 on August 20, 2012
I think and I wish this will touch 150k very soon. I like the idea of pro version for backers. any details on the pro version? what changes it will have compared to the base version of digispark?
Creator Jay Bryon on August 20, 2012
+1 for STL files of 3D enclosures, bonus points for variants that allow for the expansion boards.
(I have a replicator).
Creator Stewart C Annis on August 20, 2012
Another cool stretch might be some 3D construction files for enclosures uploaded to thingverse for those lucky few who have managed to build a reprap.
Creator Stewart C Annis on August 20, 2012
I agree with Dennis, Dustin and Ryan: I would love to see a little Kickstarter logo and maybe even a dataglyph linking to the supporters list. It would be even cooler to see a dataglyph with the KS logo in the middle.
Casey
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 20, 2012
@Dustin & Ryan: I agree with you. I'd recommend a white PCB color with (a kickstarter only) green labeling and a kickstarter logo on its back.
Creator Ryan Blackwood on August 20, 2012
I second Dustin's comment. It'd be nice if it had a little Kickstarter logo or something silk screened onto the boards or somehting to show that we got them through this project.
Creator Brad Keen on August 20, 2012
It would be fantastic if you put together a project book or a number of how to projects for the shields.
Creator Dustin on August 20, 2012
For future stretch goals, is there any way to tweek these kickstarter boards in some way to make them specific to this run? Even something as benign as adding some sort of kickstarter specific silk, that won't require a board re-design for the production run. Or a special kickstarter specific shield. Part of the fun of kickstarter is being some of the first to help this happen, and having the slightly modified device/product to show it, you know?
Creator Yankee Doodle on August 20, 2012
Erik, can we make a kit of kits and give an option to get all of them at a better price?
