Update #33: The Golden Rules

Hello everyone! We're back, and we've brought along some great news: Version 2.0 of the Carnival rules are complete and ready to download!
We've spent a few months answering questions and gathering valuable feedback so that we could create a new rules set that is - with any hope - more clear and easy to reference than the single sheet that came inside your Carnival box. You'll find that we haven't changed any of the rules that you've grown accustomed to, but you may discover some unnoticed nuances in many of the clarifications and examples.
The new rules answer important questions that many of you have asked, like:
What do we do when the draw deck runs out?
What happens if I simply can't take two Dice Roll Actions?
Who in the world goes first???
We also take the opportunity to expand and clarify the rules for the Team Carnival variant that is now officially the recommended way to experience Carnival with four players.
Version 2.0 of the rules are available in two downloadable formats: A foldable pamphlet that requires a bit of assembly for you enterprising carnies (seen above) and an easy-to-print and read version with facing pages (seen below).

Version 2.0 is now the official rules set and will be in effect for all Carnival tournaments during conventions this summer. Our first official Carnival tournament will be held at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, June 2. If you plan to be at Origins, sign up for the tournament for a chance to win fame and prizes! Just be sure you're familiar with the new rules, particularly the part about action protocol on page 6...
And be sure to stop by booth #809 in the Exhibition Hall where we'll be selling Carnival (and some other goodies) and showing off advance copies of VivaJava: The Coffee Game and several other upcoming titles from Dice Hate Me Games. We'll also have a giant-sized version of Lucky Dice with a daily leaderboard and a chance to win even more prizes!
Please let us know what you think of the new rules, and we hope to meet many of you at Origins. As always, thank you for your support and enthusiasm, and above all - happy gaming!
All the best,
Cherilyn & Chris
Update #32: Get Lucky!

Yes, true believers - Dice Hate Me Games has journeyed into the digital realm! We're proud to announce that everyone's favorite one-card wonder, Lucky Dice, is now available for the iOS. Many of you wonderful Carnival supporters received Lucky Dice as a bonus in The Sideshow expansion. Now you can play it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod - and best of all, you don't have to do the math!
Lucky Dice is free and will always be free, so head on over to the app store and check it out. Let us know what you think; we have much more planned for Lucky Dice - and a few other digital surprises - in the months to come!
And be sure to stop by the Dice Hate Me Games booth (booth 809) in the Exhibitor's Hall at Origins Game Fair where you'll be able to play Giant Lucky Dice for fame, glory and some awesome prizes!
We hope all of you are doing well, still enjoying Carnival and spreading the love! Thanks, as always for your continued support.
All the best,
Cherilyn & Chris

Fidel - Hopefully some day! Unfortunately, cross-platform development right now is a little cost-prohibitive. But we're an iPhone AND Android family, so we hope to support both at some point.

Am I the only one who's able to start the dice bouncing and then set down my phone and the dice continue to bounce? The dice have been bouncing on my phone's screen for 5 minutes now, and show no sign of stopping.
Just a little quirk in the game.

Ken - Yeah, that seems to be a small quirk with the gyroscope readings. Since the dice are programmed to react to the tilt, if you tilt it just right and then then stop at juuust the right time, the dice get a bit stuck. For most, it seems that the dice will come out of their funk with a little nudge. We'll see if we can figure that one out for a future update.

Update #31: Coffee at the Carnival?
Hello everybody! It's been awhile. How've you been? Enjoying Carnival, we hope!
We're writing to all of you wonderful people to let you know that we have a new game available on Kickstarter - VivaJava: The Coffee Game. It's a bit different than Carnival - and a lot bigger! - but we think many of you will enjoy its unique gameplay and social interaction. To learn more about the game, you can check out VivaJava's official Kickstarter page right over here. And even if it doesn't seem like your cup of tea (or coffee), you can still help us out immensely by mentioning it to friends, family or colleagues!

We do hope everyone is having fun with Carnival, and there's no way we could have produced it without all of your help. The same is true with VivaJava - and you can help us make it happen once again.
And coming back around to Carnival, keep an eye on dicehatemegames.com for updates, an FAQ, some new house rules submitted by fans and even rules for scoring! And if you plan to be at Origins Game Fair this year, make sure to stop by the Dice Hate Me Games booth for a chance to win some neat swag and play Giant-Sized Lucky Dice! We'll also be running Carnival tournaments throughout the con, so break out those Tickets and practice those Midway-building skills. You can even challenge Cherilyn to a game!
Thanks again for your continued generosity and support. We love you like family.
Cherilyn & Chris

Update #30: Happy New Year from DHMG!
Thanks to all of you, 2011 has been one of the best years ever!
As we promised at the end of our campaign, we have a backers-only Carnival page filled with lots of digital goodies, including the Print & Play version of Pulsar. The link to this page will be active through the end of January, so be sure to download your rewards before then. We hope all of you enjoy the music, art, and most of all, the game. Please let us know what you think.
We are also working on the webpage dedicated to thanking all of you for your support. It will be live on the new dicehatemegames.com site in the next couple of weeks...the list is long!
In other news, there has been question as to how to use the Wild! die. When we created the Wild! die we had a specific rule in mind: Replace one of the regular dice with the Wild! die. If on a roll the Wild! die lands "!" side up, you may assign any value from 1-6. But we also encourage house rules and look forward to hearing how the Wild! die is used at your gaming table.
And last, but definitely not least, we have fulfilled a request for a Lucky Dice tutorial video. So here it is :)

Chris, I love that you guys updated this rules guide. I also like the fact that you put that "Action Protocol" in their on page 6. We played it that way from the start, but that does clear up any questions about it from the previous rule set. Thanks!
Shawn
Thanks, Shawn! We're pretty stoked about the new rules, too. It feels good to have it in a pamphlet format, which allowed us to do things in a more linear fashion and break out some examples.
