Diane Perry has been perfecting her unique style on jazz violin for twenty years. Utilizing the impressive technique on her instrument she cultivated during her classical Juilliard training, she incorporates the lilt of Stephane Grappelli, the bluesy growl of Stuff Smith, the boppy feel of Ray Nance, and comes up with a unique blend of all these elements: classical, jump, bop, and pop--emulating no one but honoring those who came before her. Add to this the warmth, depth and expressiveness of her singing, and you are left wondering, why haven't you heard of her before?
Diane Perry is the jazz persona for classical violinist Diane Montalbine, and although she's been busy gigging across the New York Metro area with many groups, both jazz and classical, she has never before issued any recordings as a leader. Some of the many jazz groups Diane Perry has performed with include The Hot Club of Philadelphia, Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, Travlin' Light and her own group, which was featured live on WNYC's program "Around New York". She is featured on the DMP Big Band's Ellington CD as well as the cast recording of the show "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" and has co-producer credits on the soundtrack to Woody Allen's film "Everyone Says I Love You".
Diane Perry also has an impressive list of orchestral credits which includes, among many others, The National Symphony Orchestra, Bach Choir of Bethlehem, National Chamber Orchestra, and the Westfield Symphony.
Diane Perry's current project is her first CD as a leader, which will feature not only her stellar violin playing and robust vocals but also one or two of her original compositions.
