About this project
Hello! My name is Lindsay Jones. I am a fashion designer in New York city. My label is Outlaws of the Border (www.outlawsoftheborder.com). This past February, I previewed my Fall 2010 collection during NY Fashion Week. So much love and hard work went into the collection (images below), I'm completely elated that it all came together. As a young designer, it is especially hard to raise funds to finance collections season after season. Most young designers rarely make it past three seasons. We have been very fortunate to survive, as cliche as it sounds. We are here at Kickstarter now to raise funds for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection!!
The funds raised will go towards covering the costs of :
- fabric for sample production
- pattern makers
- intern stipend
- venue
- hair + make-up
- models
- invites
- equipment rental (stage, lights, chairs, etc.)
- transportation (trafficking samples all over the city and back)
- props
- etc, etc, etc . . .
The cost to produce a fashion show can go into the $100,000's -- our goal is essentially the bare minimum that we need to produce a show without compromising the integrity of the line and even still, this is with a lot of corners cut and many (very appreciated!) friendly favors.
Like any project, building this label has taken an immense amount of dedication and passion. Spring 2011 will be my fourth collection, faithfully with many seasons to follow. I am full of gratitude for all the grace and team work that goes into making something truly great happen.
Thank you Kickstarter and thank you all for your support towards a creative vision and for this opportunity to follow my dreams.

Interview with Lindsay Jones

+++
Outlaws of the Border designer Lindsay Jones skipped the traditional hotel lobby for her Fall 2010 presentation, opting instead for the cavernous, dilapidated second floor of a Tribeca fabric store. "I think there's a lot of beauty in decay, and the ways the walls and ceiling look in this space, with their paint peeling and chipped, reminds me of the south of France," Jones told PAPERMAG after the show. She's also stepped away from the blacks and blues of her Gothic Spring 2010 line, replacing them with sumptuous silks in fuchsia and magenta inspired by Russian literature and, as Jones tell us below, pink Keds.
There's much more color in this line than your Spring line. What made you want to go in that direction?
That pair of pink shoes on the floor over there? I picked those up and I couldn't stop wearing them. Then I just started collecting colors. A lot of the colors I was picking were pink and purple, and I haven't thought about colors like that since I was child. I also think being in the city, and feeling like the city can be really dark and heavy, also influenced me. I wanted to be light and child-like and to think about the stuff you're drawn to when you're a kid -- fruity smells, scratch-and-sniff stickers, My Little Pony. I was just kind of sick of being dismal.
There was more draping and almost kimono-like shapes in the show.
I've been reading a lot of Russian literature and reading a lot about Tatars and Mongolian warriors and I wanted to work with the image of a huntress on horseback. I think I'm always attracted to Japanese designs, too. It's just very organic and kind of intuitive. All of those influences came to a head for me with this line.
You had a crazy year -- one of your designs was on the cover of WWD and Heidi Klum said she was a fan of your line. Are you working with her now?
I know her personal assistant, so they went through with a stylist and decided what they liked. They're really nice, and asked me to go do a try-on of the stuff, but that's just not the direction that I'm interested in going in.
And WWD?
That was our first press. It was my first collection and I had no idea that that was going to happen. I went to pick up the issue assuming the photo would be inside, and it was on the cover. I was really excited.
Gratefully,
Lindsay Jones

'Outlaws of the Border'
November 2009 issue of Vogue Nippon (Japanese Vogue) :
"A Spirited Brand in NY "
From a Husband and Wife team comes the brand, Outlaws of the Border. This is the second season of their debut year. There has been quite a bit of buzz surrounding the brand. Designer, Lindsay Jones studied fashion in Art School in New York. After graduation she understudied with Miguel Adrover to fine tune her skills. She has also built her career in the "maison couture" of Zac Posen and Marc Jacobs. Her debut of 2009 spring summer collection is a real breakthrough/turning point. In this collection she brilliantly blended Victorian elegance with Goth taste. The media has praised her for showing a rare/unique sense of style with her collection. Heidi Klum was drawn to her brand and subsequently expressed her support. Designer Lindsay Jones is counted among the up and coming designers of New York City....
Her signature look uses drapes/draping with simplicity and elegance. The brand's name is taken from a book about the American western pioneer, Jesse James."
