About this project
Since February 2003 MotorCityRocks.com (MCR) has ben the online home of the Detroit music community. MCR features extensive information on the Detroit music scene including daily editorial content, MP3 downloads, show listings, as well as venue, band, and Detroit neighborhood profiles.
MCR boasts over 3,000 daily readers and has been name dropped in Maxim, Blender, New York Magazine, NME, Rolling Stone, Washington Post, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Metro Times, Hour Detroit, Real Detroit Weekly, on websites such as Detour and Model D, and radio stations BBC, NPR, WRIF, WDET, Michigan Radio (WUOM), 89X (CMIX), WXYT and CJAM.
Detroit is one of the most financially depressed cities. We're one of the most dangerous cities. We have some of the highest foreclosures and some of the lowest employment. Through this comes the best artists, the best parties, and some of the best people.
The city of Detroit has been one of the most musically influential and innovative cities for the past 50 years, whether in Michigan or anywhere else in the United States. Impressively, for 48 straight years (1959 and 2007) a greater Michigan area artist has produced a chart topping recording.
Motor City Rocks aims to video promote the Detroit music scene through interviews, live footage, and commentary. We've been working with local talented groups, trying to help them find their audience. All our footage is available to the bands we record and interview at no cost. Our problem at the moment is that we lack the equipment to promote these bands at the level they deserve. Out of the first dozen bands we've worked with on video projects, 25% of them have been nominated for 2010 Detroit Music Awards!
Your Money With the money donated to our project we plan on purchasing two HD camcorders, batteries, lenses, cases, tripods, a quality field recorder, microphones, a light kit for interviews, and a workstation to edit the higher-quality footage we'll be working with.
Detroit has always had a extraordinarily rich musical landscape and we want to give the world an insider's view into this creative spawning ground in a way that no one else has.
