Update #12: IT's Almost Done!! plus Hollywood

Posted on March 2
Dear Backers,

A lot has happened in the past few weeks.

Our movie is ALMOST DONE!!

In February Mu-Ming & Iris presented the almost final cut, we watched it 2 times internally, and then had 2 informal test screenings under tight time constraint. The first was a friends & family screening, the second was with... guess who... Paul Pangaro himself from NY and Hugh Dubberly who introduced us to him! We were so honored and the test screenings taught us a lot.

We also spent time to send out rough cuts to the interviewees and generally had very positive feedback!

A Trip to Hollywood

Absolutely no less exciting:

Last week, we came back from Hollywood -- a trip to visit Haim Mazar, our composer's studio to see the live recording session of the score!

Following that we discussed briefly what the unfinished part of score could look like. It was AMAZING to see professional musicians come in, sit down, start playing and recording and get their work done. It was awesome, considering also the tight time budget Haim and the musicians were given.

Here we Come!

We also just sent out our first film festival application - Newport Beach Film Festival was very kind to inquire our interest even though the deadline has passed. It is so encouraging.

Because of so many reasons, our screening schedule keeps getting delayed. Many apologies to you all. But you will see it in several months to come and we are very very much looking forward to that day!!

Update #11: Update for 2012

Posted on January 30

Dear Backers,

Happy New Year 2012! We're excited to tell you we've been reviewing rough cuts of the documentary. Things are really moving forward. Muming and Iris have locked themselves up. Yang and Melissa have been self-learning what it means to produce a film, review content, plan for distribution, publicity, and handle legal terms.

An internal rough cut screening for the 4 of us~

Very luckily, we had one of the music backers offered to work for the whole movie score. After many considerations, we have decided to work with him solely for soundtrack, so the music part is also in progress. We'd like to thank all the artists who offered your work, and will continue to provide the publicity we promised.

If you are interested, here's a final list of people/organizations we have filmed for making this documentary.

Thanks to New Sponsors

Two companies, Alljack Premium Factory and Kiddie Paradise are 2 new sponsors for the documentary. They are friends as well as sponsors. Thank you!

Seeing the Movie

We are settling down our deliver schedule. We estimate to have the film made in February, productions in March, screening in April/May, and send out your backer copies before that. The first show will most likely be in the San Francisco Bay Area! We welcome screening request from all over the world. Later on, the movie will be available for purchase.

Regarding screenings, feel free to contact us at: designthinking.movie@gmail.com
Meeting up with friend Eric helping us with ideas.

Thank You For Kickstarting Me.

A while back we were interviewed by a photographer JJ Casas to be included in his project documenting successful Kickstarter projects. It was our first time being interviewed! Recently it's launched on Kickstarter as well! Give it a look

Update #10: Progress & Screening Plans

Posted on November 21, 2011

Dear Backers, hope every one is doing great!

Thanks to you all, Mu-Ming and Iris have retired to their editing room and began working with massive footage.  At the same time, Yang and Melissa are working for more opportunities of funding and collaboration, throughout US, Taiwan, and rest of the world, so people would be able to see the documentary!

Screening Plans

We are making plans for screening and release some time early next year. If you'd like to see screening in your city, your event or your country, don't hesitate to contact us:

designthinking.movie@gmail.com

We are considering an open collaborative translation project for subtitles. We are only so good at English and Chinese, so this would probably be for Spanish, Japanese, German, Korean... well depends on how ambitious we all are!

If you think you stand in good place to work with subtitle translations, contact us too at the email above!

Speaking of global, let's give you a visual taste of how design thinking is happening in Taiwan, with an example of design thinking + non-designers...

An article by director Mu-Ming, telling his thoughts on MOT/TIMES online magazine.

And I tell you, he's a good writer! As well as one by Iris, sharing their Muris Media startup experience! Good job, guys!

Also, don't forget to enjoy music from our BACKERS!

Yang, Melissa, Mu-Ming and Iris are from non-profit organization Taipei Design Center U.S., and media studio Muris Media, both based in San Francisco.

They met in March, 2011 and decided this is an interesting topic to explore and document. Bringing together different expertise, cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives, they are working with shoestring budget and a half-year deadline – the film is expected to launch in October, 2011.
