We're on target to ship 5 printers out this week. The "Best Deal Ever" backers will be receiving their surveys shortly to get the latest and greatest shipping address. From there, we'll continue moving forward and sending out surveys to the other tiers. Stay tuned for that!
It brings us great pleasure to report that our test shipment has made it to its destination in one piece and started printing perfectly right out of the box! No fuss!
Our test user was so excited to receive the shipment, the UPS guy even made the cut.
Heated Build Plates
We know a lot of you have been wondering about the "heated build plate" option. We want to be completely honest and open with all of our decisions through this learning experience.
We have made a final decision to deliver all of the Kickstarter printers without a heated bed. We have not come up with a solution we find acceptable to mitigate the safety concerns that a heated bed presents to our open design. Just about every young person that sees the DeltaMaker for the first time gravitates towards touching things. Warning labels and caution lights are simply not enough to keep curious hands away from the build surface.
The printer has been designed to support a heated bed, and we are shipping all of the Kickstarter backers a power supply capable of powering a heated bed. We suspect custom heated bed solutions to be shared by users and the broader community before we can release anything official. When we do, it will have to be part of a larger effort that adds a safety enclosure of some type to the machine. We don't have formal plans or schedules for this, and frankly, the demand moving forward will probably drive that. If the option becomes available, our Kickstarter backers will get first dibs and as good of a deal as we can possibly offer.
We are getting excellent results with auto-bed leveling, frosted acrylic, and PLA, and machines have been logging hundreds of hours with nearly flawless operation. This is light years better than printing on blue tape and we're excited to get everyone's feedback when they are out in the wild.
We knew once we shipped the first unit, the ball would start rolling. We're confident in our shipping process and we'll continue shipping printers as fast as we possibly can!
