      hi dean,
my four onelessdrop powercord anchors arrived this morning. i have not unwrapped them
yet but they do look fantastic. to be honest, i think the comments from sam not just at all, but i can the impression that he is very hard to please anyway! perhaps he is a some kind of wizard who as designed brillinat things all his life and feels qualified to moan...

anyway, well done dean - i think the most of us are happy!

Now that I received this, I have no idea what I can use it for. If I saw this at an store for $25 I would of never purchased it because it looks so small. The main Kickstarter video makes the item look a lot larger then it is. Maybe the product dimensions should of been posted. I am sure you could sell it for $4.95 and still make profit, at $25 I have buyers remorse.

I don't have any mac products so I don't worry about cables. My two phones don't have charging cables or things cluttering my desk, so maybe the real solution would be for Apple to have better design practices, because I think they really bad if you need to buy a $25 piece of metal for a cable that won't stay on the table. But I guess if you want to pay a premium for a iPhone that is not well designed - a OneLessDrop is for you.

      Hi Dean,
      I recieved mine on Thursday.
The finishes are truely amazing, specially the Red one.
It's the perfect cord holder I was looking for to use on my "natural" aluminium OneLessDesk!
      Thanks!

Perfect, Dean. Even the dark feet which right up to the unwrapping I thought I would not like as much as the clear ones in your original concept. But, you'right; they're perfect, too. Bravo! Well done. Thanks.

Hi Todd. Thanks, and yes. Without reviewing my past updates to tell you which updates contained which change pronouncements, the progressions of change was as follows: Originally, all were to be bead blast, then yellow (gold) on the bead blast did not look good. So I decided to have the Signature Series hand-polished instead. The hand-polishing in native silver looked so good I decided they would not be dyed yellow/gold. Later, after the production, standard units proved near-imposible to bead-blast, I decided all units would also be hand-polished. The good news for backers was that every unit would get the highest-end finish. The bad news for "Gold" Level backers is that the only distinction between a standard silver and the Signature Series unit would be the my milled signature. So it was a combination of factors.

Hey Dean. I got my OneLessDrops today and they look great. Question for you though... I thought the signature series ones were going to be gold. Mine is silver. Did I miss something where you said there was going to be a change? Thanks.

Creator Dean Heckler on September 7, 2011

Thank you Todd. Yeah, the fact that it has taken so long to get OneLessDrop to ship is a personal embarrassment. For my past products, such as OneLessDesk, production and development delays were my own private hell. However, with Kickstarter, I got to share my torment with 400 other people. Now many other people know what it is like to live with an idea of product in your head, without being able to hold it in your hand - for months and sometimes years. It's a bizarre torture. On one hand, I'm sorry I put so many people through that experience. On the other hand, I think people should know what product folks go through to make things a reality.
Yes, it's an unfortunate aspect of Kickstarter that many people come to this site thinking it's a way to simply pre-order a new product that is just about to ship. Luckily, those folks are in the minority. And some of those folks even learn to be patient and enjoy the process.
There will be a few more backer-only updates to come. Then I'll get a new blog started over at Hecklerdesign.com so to give me an outlet and to give folks a continued, insider look at what's coming next.
Thanks again for your kind words.

I agree with Dani. It has been 6 months since this project was funded, longer than any other project I funded (if memory serves me) and I am still without my reward. And honestly I don't give a damn. I concur that Dean, IMO, has handled this project beautifully and completely exudes what KickStarter is meant to be. Taking an idea, soliciting attention and funds, and working the process to make the idea a reality. Through Dean's obvious passion and dedication to the backers with constant updates and exclusive offers I really do feel that I have been a part of creating something through my contribution and not just pre-ordering a product. Other prospective KickStarters should take note and use Dean as an example.

      Dani,
Excellent. I'm happy that you are pleased.
Yeah, the unfinished versions may need to stay available for sale. They are proving to be popular. There are so few products available that just 'go with' a raw, industrial look. When I visit vendors, I see all these raw, shiny parts for other companies, on their way to be painted black or coated in some way, and I think "wait, it looks awesome just as it is."

    13. Missing_small

Creator Dani on August 25, 2011

Received my raw/industrial OneLessDrop... so tiny! Heavier than expected and nice, grippy feet. I love it, can't wait for the finished product. Great design and, as David said, the frequent behind the scenes updates have been extremely interesting, as well. I wish all Kickstarter project updates were this frequent and informative. Thanks!

    14. Dean-heckler-283-sq-copy.small

Creator Dean Heckler on August 24, 2011

Hi Adam. Yeah, I've always felt people would interpret OneLessDrop to be larger than it actually is given the close-up pictures and renderrings . As much as I posted pics with the cords in place and an iPhone nearby, the human brain just exaggerates scale. I'm sure the long wait to get an actual unit hands-on does not help the issue. I'm glad you like the actual size. I've been living with and using them for months, in a variety of power-cord anchoring scenarios, and I feel good about the design decisions made.

      Creator Adam R. on August 24, 2011

I just got a red imperfect OneLessDrop that I ordered and I have to say that it is smaller than I expected, but is actually the perfect size. It is gorgeous and the scratches are barely noticeable; in fact it took me a good 5 minutes to even realize that there were scratches. I'm looking forward to the final product.

Very kind of you, David. It's been great to have an audience to speak to during the ups and downs. I do intend to recreate a blog over at hecklerdesign.com in the coming weeks so folks who are interested in my other projects can get some realtime, behind-the-scenes details - much like the backer-only Kickstarter updates. Stay tuned.

I realize that this may be tempting fate, Dean, not to mention the possibility of generating a lot of feelings of enmity among other backers but, here it is anyway. I really enjoy your updates almost (and I stress *almost*) to the point that I find myself worrying that someday my order will actually show up and the updates will be no more. Again, let me stress *almost*. It's a delightful ride. Thanks for taking us along.

Aidan. Thanks. Make-up batch of reds due for inspection this Tuesday-Wednesday. Make-up batch of silvers due to complete hand polishing this Wednesday-Thursday. Likely, they will be immediately delivered to the anodizer. About one week to complete anodizing. Assuming improved yield for these batches, all silver, red, and signature Kickstarter units will be in stock. At the moment yield looks good, address surveys will be emailed. Mailing will commence within a couple days of sending surveys. Best, Dean

I love the high-polished finish! Your executive decision making proved to be fortuitous for us backers. Very elegant and classy.

The detail of the etching is unbelievable and I can't wait to receive mine. My friends will be wanting one for Christmas. Hhhmm, great birthday and holiday gift idea!! Thanks.

      Job well done, Dean.

Wow, Dean those polished units look terrific! Any way for us single order OLD backers to get the polish finish (but not signature) on ours? I'd pay an extra $10 plus incur extra delay in shipping (if you wanted to do them at the end) as well. We could pay you via PayPal if you were willing to do it.

I'm eyeballing "Late July" currently. The milled but unfinished parts should be delivered tomorrow. Then I scramble for 3 weeks to have the metal finished. Packaging is scheduled to arrive July 21 ish. Assembly and shipping to backers immediately thereafter. Sales at hecklerdesign.com after that. Then vacation for Dean. Thank you for you anticipation of this product and your patience.

Thanks Anon. Actually, OneLessDrop is meant to hold your power cord when it is not plugged in to your mobile device. It keeps the cord from falling to the ground when your notebook, iPad, or mobile phone is not providing that convenience.

    32. Missing_small

Ironically, doesn't it nullify the original purpose of the mag-safe adapter? (designed to detach from the device in case of too much mechanical strain on the cord). No matter though, people seem to love it, and it's a great looking design.

      Hi Fred,
      Yes.
My OneLessDesk silver powdercoat finish is applied atop cold rolled steel and is designed to 'look' like media blasted, anodized aluminum. OneLessDrop will actually be media blasted, anodized aluminum. So the two prodcuts should look very good next to eachother.

    40. Missing_small

Creator Fred Reynolds on February 21, 2011

Hi Dean - I'm a happy owner of a silver OneLessDesk. I see that the silver OneLessDrop will be "anodized clear" with "media blast" finish. I'm not sure that I can visualize what that means. :-) So, for the design-challenged among us: will the silver OneLessDrop have the same (or very similar) color / finish as the silver powdercoat Desk?
