I am recording my second album with songs I have written for an awesome group of musicians and an extraordinary vocalist.
Dear Music Lovers of All Kinds
The time has finally come for me to record my second album and you can help make it a reality. My first recording, "The Timeless Now," released in 2007 was graciously embraced by the jazz community and received a four-star review in Downbeat magazine. In the last three years I have written a lot of new music that I hope will be just as inspiring.
As these new songs were being created the question arose as to who would be the best interpreters and without any effort on my part the answer appeared. While teaching at Port Townsend Jazz Camp, John Clayton organized a group of faculty members to give a concert which produced a magical night which inspired us all. The group consisted of Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet), Jaleel Shaw (alto sax), Taylor Eigsti (piano), Joe Sanders (bass), and Justin Brown (drums). We all knew each other before but had never played together in that format. Joining us in this project will be extraordinary vocalist Gretchen Parlato.
In the years since "The Timeless Now" release, besides writing, I've kept busy teaching and performing. As some of you may know I am in need of a kidney transplant due to a rare kidney disease called Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) which affects 20 out of every million. While waiting for a transplant I administer my own dialysis daily which takes more logistical planning for me while touring. With all this in mind, the music must go on.
As far as funding this project, I can't do it alone. Maintaining medicare requires me to have a very limited income. YOU have the opportunity to make this recording a reality by helping to fund its release.
