A distributed memorial for the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I want to complete it by sending the memorial tiles to you.
I started the tile project in March 2011 in response to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The earthquake was 9.0 magnitude, the strongest to ever hit Japan and the 5th strongest to have ever been recorded anywhere. It triggered a tsunami that was over 40 meters tall. Over 19,000 people are dead or missing.
I started making the memorial immediately after the earthquake for the many people affected. I made about 2,200 tiles. They measure 13 cm by 4 cm . All hand made so the size varies slightly. Originally I intended to put the names of everyone who lost their lives on the tiles and then donate them to a town or temple. That idea didn’t work out.
Here is what I want to do.
The tiles will be glazed white and I will fire photographic images taken in Japan over 100 years ago onto the tiles. I chose to use these types of images because they are a tribute to the history of the Japanese people and they look nice. The tiles will come in a wooden base that can be put on your desk or a wall. For
the pledges that get more tiles they will come in a wooden frame that
holds 10 tiles.
Sending the tiles to people around the world will complete this distributed memorial.
I will have a number of categories of images. I will have at least 10 different images in each categories.

Please back this project. It will help me finish this and complete this memorial.
Thank you very much for taking an interest in this.
I would like to thank Okinawa Soba for his generosity in letting me use images from his Flickr site, http://www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/
