Shakespeare's classic text performed by modern-day super-heroes.
Hello, David Miller here. I'd like to talk to you about 2 of my passions: Shakespeare and the art of comics.
When I was growing up my favorite movie was West Side Story. I had no idea that it was based beat-for-beat on Romeo and Juliet. Such is the power of Shakespeare's work that it can be reinterpreted and modernized endlessly.
And their influence can be felt across all media. Which is why I'm here. I am seeking funding for a new series of graphic novels based on the plays of William Shakespeare. This isn't going to be a rehashing of Classics Illustrated. Rather a hybrid of the classic text with modern comics visuals. I feel this is a way to celebrate the Bard while at the same time introducing the works to a new generation in a medium that helps make it relate-able.
So, we keep the original text but place it in a modern and contemporary comics visual. The books become both the medium and an interpretive tool. With new and original characters that I have clearance to use performing the roles of classic Shakespearean characters. It's something for everyone.
In addition there will be footnotes and text pieces explaining Shakespeare's intentions with these stories to help initiate the new reader.
I really feel this will be a way to introduce these classics to the 21st century.
But to produce these adaptations will require funding. As you can see I am trying to raise the sum of 10 Thousand dollars. I'm sure you've seen the budgets other campaigns have asked for one comic book. A graphic adaptation like this is like doing 4 comics. And my ultimate goal is to have a series of books adapting the works of Shakespeare with this format. If this campaign is successful it would be enough to kick off the initiative.

With a publishing initiative it always comes down to ability and deadlines. I have 25 years experience in the high-pressure deadline environment of daily newspapers having held management positions at the Times/Journal Company, USA Today and The Washington Post. During that time I have also been a comics packager and freelance artist and continue to this day. You can see some of the series my studio has packaged at www.wowio.com/davidmillerstudios
I am a lover of Shakespeare, but not an authority so part of the funding would go to consulting a Shakespeare specialist where needed.
And if a deadline issue does occur I will hire additional talent to make sure the product ships on time.
